BOC will discuss re-districting during the first meeting of 2022
News January 2, 2022WHITE COUNTY, Ga. – The Board of Commissioners will consider approval of White County’s local re-districting county commission and board of education maps when it holds its first combined work session and regular meeting of the New Year Monday (Jan. 3) in the County Administration Building on Helen Highway at 4:30 p.m.
The Board will also consider approval of technology infrastructure upgrades including server refresh, replacement of network core switches and firewall replacement.
Faith Bryan of the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission will present information regarding White County’s challenge of the 2020 Census results.
The Board will also consider a land use application filed by Gregory Chastain to redistrict 7.09 acres at 250 Hogan Road in Cleveland from A-1 Agriculture Forestry to R-1 Residential single and a request by for a conditional use permit (CUP) for Ger Corcimiglia to redistrict 15.54 acres at 511 Lookout Ridge Road in Cleveland to be placed into the county’s short-term rental program.
SPLOST revenue reaches $26.5 million
News December 1, 2020WHITE COUNTY, Ga. – Kevin Hamby delivered the good news at the Board of Commissioners meeting Monday that the 72-month special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) program has exceed all expectations.
Hamby, who oversees the program for the county, reported that the final collections are in and a program that started six years ago and was projected to raise $19 million actually generated $26.5 million to fund a variety of local projects, including the construction of a new jail.
Hamby also noted the county will soon make the final payment on the $9.1 million jail. “This Board made a commitment 10 years ago and we’re very blessed that in 10 years, we’ve paid the debt off.”
Commissioners unanimously approved the purchase of an information technology back-up software and hardware for the network system for one year at a cost of $38,884.60 and the purchase of a lightning detector for Yonah Preserve Baseball Fields at a cost of $8,350.
Commissioners also approved an adjustment to the county employee retirement that will match the employee’s contribution to a 401a plan up to 7 percent after a probationary period of 90 days.
The Board also unanimously approved the following:
- A land use application filed by Ed Maxwell to redistrict approximately nine acres located at 9648 Duncan Bridge Road in Cleveland from Community Commercial District Highway Business District;
- A land use application filed by Glenn Walker to redistrict approximately three acres at 502 Duncan Bridge Road from Single Family District to Residential Seasonal District to be placed in the short-term rental program;
- A land use application filed by Bryan Lee to redistrict approximately 8.1 acres at 66 Lothridge Road in Cleveland from Community Commercial District to Highway Business District for the purpose of expanding his mini-storage business.
A land use application filed by Chad Knott on behalf of Diane Hutcherson for a conditional use permit on 1.3 acres located at 213 Peppermint Drive in Sautee Nacoochee to be placed in the short-term rental program was postponed due to the applicant not being present.

BOC to discuss purchase of lightning detector for Baseball Complex
News November 29, 2020WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — The White County Board of Commissioners will hold a combined work session and called meeting Monday Nov. 30 at 4:30 p.m. in the County Administration Building on Helen Hwy.
There are several New Business items on the agenda to be discussed, including:
- The purchase of information technology back-up software the White County Network System;
- Revisions to the Recreation Department Fee Schedule;
- Purchase and installation of lightning detector for the Yonah Preserve Ballfield Complex;
- Proposed improvements to the Health Department facilities;
- Establishment of a compensation policy for members of boards, committees and authorities appointed and overseen by the Board of Commissioners;
- Year-end appointments to many boards and committees;
- Amendments to the employee retirement plan;
- Development of a financial policy for White County Government.
There are also a number of zoning applications to be considered, including:

Discussion of proposed ordinances highlight Monday’s commission meeting

Items to be discussed include a nuisance ordinance for the county’s unincorporated area and a proposed draft broadband ready community ordinance.
Commissioners will also consider the land use application of Caitlin Payne for a conditional use permit on 1.22 acres at 379 Howell Mill Drive in Sautee Nacoochee to be placed in the short-term rental program.

BOC will consider cost of living increase for county employees Monday
News September 25, 2020WHITE COUNTY, Ga. – The White County Board of Commissioners will consider a cost of living allowance (COLA) for county employees and setting compensation for Board of Elections and Registration members when they meet in a combined called meeting and work session Monday (Sept. 28) at 4:30 p.m. in the County Administration Building.
Commissioners will also discuss:
- A land use application filed by Justin Hester to redistrict 1.04 acres at 3391 Hwy. 129 in Cleveland from C-2 Highway Business District to R-1 Residential single family district;
- A land use application filed by Chad Knott for a conditional land use permit on 1.5 acres on Sang Springs Trail in Cleveland to be placed in the short-term rental program;
- A land use application filed by Sam Kondamudi for a conditional use permit at 645 Yonah Mountain Road in Cleveland to be placed in the short-term rental program;
