Cleveland Funeral Home announces the passing of Viola Nix Evans on January 24th, 2020.

Born March 13th, 1926 in White County Georgia to the late William and Sarah Denton Chastain.

She is preceded in death by her 1st husband Wiley Nix and a special nephew raised as a son Wayne Chastain, Brothers; Sylvester, Barnett, Garnett, Arthur, Oscar, Alonzo, Esco, Lawrence and Willard Chastain, Sisters; Julie Trusty, Mamie Goss, and Beulah Abernathy.

Mrs. Evans is Survived by her husband Richard Evans.

Children; Dennis Evans, of Marietta Ga; Richard(Rusty) & Stephenie Evans of Roswell, Ga;Elizabeth & Thomas Horton of Gainesville, Ga.

Grandchildren: Robert Evans, Adeline and Amelia Horton as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Cleveland Funeral Home January 25th from 6-8pm and January 26th from 1-2 pm

Funeral Service will be January 26th at 2pm in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Internment will follow at Gateway Memorial Park. 184 Boulevard St, Cleveland, GA 30528

Betty Jean Lewis Meaders, age 87, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020.

Mrs. Meaders was born in Cleveland to the late Steve and Neila Skelton Lewis.  In addition to parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Lanier Meaders; brother, Wallace Lewis; and sister, Gaynell Pittman.

Mrs. Meaders worked in Customer service for Regions Bank and was a member of White Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Donna and Ronald James, Vivian and Robert Maney, Wayne and Diane Pittman, and Gary and Judy Richardson; nephew, Dennis Richardson; sister-in-law, Nell Lewis; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3 P.M. Tuesday, January 21, 2020 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Lewis Fortner will officiate.  Interment will follow at White Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Monday, January 20, 2020 and from 1-3 P.M. Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the funeral home.

Jackie Robert Hill Sr: Obituary

Jackie Robert Hill Sr., age 77, of Cleveland, passed away Friday, January 16, 2020.

 

Mr. Hill was born in Blairsville, Georgia, the son of the late Lloyd Bonnell Hill and Neppie Jane Young Hill.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Claxton Hill and was a member of Sons of the Confederacy. Mr. Hill was an auto mechanic and rebuilt cars.

 

Survivors include his wife, Karen Hill, Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, Jackie Robert Hill Jr. and Melinda and Russell Glen and Becky Hill, all of Cleveland; daughter, Sherry Kay Hill, McDonough; step-son, Richard Bryan Handley, Zebulon; step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Heather and Keith Conner, Cleveland; 5 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and brother, Dennis Hill, Griffin.

Ernest Howell Thomas: Obituary

Ernest Howell Thomas, age 77, of the Shoal Creek community of Cleveland, GA, passed away January 13, 2020 as his residence surrounded by family and friends.

Mr. Thomas was born June 23, 1942. His parents were the late Jesse and Willie Lou Stringer Thomas. Grandparents were the late J.G. and Milbry Reid Thomas and Alex and Cora Belle Kanady Stringer all of Cleveland, GA. He is also preceded in death by sons Mike and Mark Thomas of Cleveland, GA.

Mr. Thomas resided in White County all his life, except during his 20 years of honorable service in the United States Air Force. Ernie served in Alaska and other places during his military career. He also served in the Vietnam War.

Mr. Thomas always had a big smile on his face and had a sunny disposition which made him many friends. He loved rabbit hunting with his Beagle dogs. Ernie attended modern gun school and was an avid marksman. He was a skilled carpenter and cabinet maker. Ernie used his talent to make many flag display boxes for veterans and others. He was a charter member of the White County Color Guard, a long-time member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, a member of the New Vision Sunday School Class and helped with the benevolence and food pantry of his church.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ruby Thomas, Cleveland; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Christi Thomas, Monroe, GA, and Bobby and Judy Lynn, Good Hope, GA; grandchildren, Tyler Thomas, Moriah Thomas, Emilie Thomas, and Kaitlin Barr. Other survivors include sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and James Tallant; five brothers and their wives, Edsel and Carolyn Thomas, Jerry and Pat Thomas, Wallace and Elaine Thomas, Benny (Pop) and Peggy Thomas, Larry (Pood) and Janice Thomas, all of Cleveland; Also surviving are a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Brian Watson and Mr. Michael Thomas will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. & 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the funeral home.

Dorothy Jean Brookshire, age 80, of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020.

Mrs. Brookshire was one of 13 children born to the late Harvel and Faye Stancil Crumley.  In addition to parents, Mrs. Brookshire is preceded in death by brothers, Lavern Crumley and J.K. Crumley; brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgle and Lois Crumley and Cecil and Juanita Crumley; brothers-in-law, Joe Cantrell, Larry Payne, Bobby Black, and Doug Allen; sister-in-law, Wanda Crumley; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alex and Betty Jo Cantrell.  Mrs. Brookshire was a retired Manager at Innsbruck Golf Course and a member of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include husband, Jimmy Brookshire, Cleveland; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Charles McClure, Cleveland, and Michelle and Randy Griffith, Suwanee; grandchildren, Josh and Amanda McClure, Jeremy and Ansley McClure, McKinsey Griffith, and Haley Griffith; great-grandchildren, Addison McClure, Brayden Martin, Brooklyn Martin, and Kolten Martin; brother and sisters-in-law, Harold and Louise Crumley and Riley and Deborah Crumley; sister, Betty Crumley Cantrell, Josephine Crumley Payne, Janell Crumley Amos, and Janett Crumley Allen; sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Phil Abernathy and Mildred and Glenn Rider; sisters-in-law, Jane Crumley and Lavaughn Crumley and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Tommy Mason Turner: Obituary

Tommy Mason Turner, age 83 of Gainesville, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2020.

 

Mr. Turner was born on May 17, 1936, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Grady and Jerrine Adamson Turner.  He began farming in 1971 and continued until just a few months ago and retired in 1991 from Lucent Technologies, formerly AT&T.  Tommy was also a veteran of the National Guard and was of the Baptist Faith.  In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his brother, Grady Turner.

 

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Nancy Turner, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Dee Turner, Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Margaret Turner, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Marsha Turner, Gainesville; grandchildren, Justin Turner and Kayla Turner; brother, Richard Turner, Royston; sisters, Harriet McGinn, Gainesville, and Janice Wayte, Forrest Park.

 

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dee Turner, daughter-in-law, for her exceptional round the clock care of Tommy.

 

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 12, 2020 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home.  The Rev. Michael Wilkes will officiate.  Interment will follow at Gateway Memory Park.

Larry David Allen: Obituary

Barrett Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mr. Larry David Allen, age 75 of Cleveland. Larry passed away Thursday, January 9, 2020 following a period of declining health.
Larry was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 3, 1944 to the late Jessie Lee (JL) Allen Jr. and Margie Summers Allen. He attended Georgia Tech and served with honor with the United States Army in Vietnam.
Larry would retire in 1998 from Delta Airlines with a career that spanned some 35 years. Following his retirement, he was owner of Jill’s Gifts with his wife in Cleveland. In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his daughter, Ashley Nicole “Nikki” Allen.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Jill Ash Allen; daughters and their husbands, Tami and Jason Folds as well as Toni and Dan Mathis; his son and daughter in law, Jimmy and Ronda Perdue; brothers and their wives, Bill and Harriett Ash and Ben and Leisa Allen.
Larry is also survived by the grandchildren he cherished so greatly, Cody, Payton, Christian, Phoebe, Hunter as well as Mia, Kandace, Kelby, Addison, Aiden and Thomas
A private gathering for Larry will be held at a later date.
