Rental cabin fire believed to be accidental
News May 22, 2018
SAUTEE, Ga. – A fire that completely destroyed a rental cabin Sunday evening is determined to be accidental.
White County Fire Department was called to the scene around 10 p.m. When the first units arrived, the cabin at 202 Clarice Lane was fully involved.
Occupants of the cabin advised E-911 Dispatch that the side of the cabin was on fire from an outdoor fireplace and extending to the exterior front and side walls. Once fire units arrived on scene, the fire had spread to the interior. Mutual aid was requested from the Habersham Fire Department and the Lee Arrendale Fire Brigade.
Firefighters were on scene for approximately three hours fighting the fire and remained on scene for an additional two hours to ensure the fire did not spread to adjacent rental cabins and homes. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The Red Cross was called in for the occupants; however, the management of the rental company assisted the occupants by providing another cabin for the occupants.
State Fire Investigator Brian Smith was called to the scene, and the incident is deemed accidental and is presently under investigation. It is probable that the outdoor fireplace may have traveled through the flue and in between the walls of the main residence (attached) thus causing the structure to be a total loss.

Kitchen Fire on River Run Causes Minor Damage
Business September 21, 2017
CLEVELAND, Ga. – Ana Newberry, spokeswoman for White County Fire Services, reported a residential fire at 425 River Forest Run Wednesday afternoon.
Newberry said upon arrival of the first fire unit, firefighters saw smoke coming from the front door of a two-story, wood frame structure. They shut off the propane to the structure while conducting a walk around. Upon entry to the home, they found that there was a small fire in the kitchen.
They set up a positive pressure ventilation fan to remove the smoke. The fire was contained to the kitchen cabinets with little fire damage to the main floor. The structure was checked with a thermal imaging camera and all was clear.

After the fire was extinguished, fire personnel removed as much water and debris from the structure as possible. Habersham Electric Membership Coop was contacted and decided to pull the meter, cutting off power to the residents due to possible electrical dangers.
There was no one home at the time of the fire. However, the smoke alarms were operational and sounding upon arrival of firefighters. There were no injuries and the homeowner declined Red Cross assistance because he has family in the area to stay with.
It was determined that the fire started with candle that had been left unattended and ignited the kitchen cabinets.
