Dennese Stringfellow, age 54 of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday, the 11th of October , 2018.

Ms.Stringfellow was born on July 11, 1964 in Demorest, Georgia to Jesse Lee Richardson and the late Jasolene Sutton Richardson. She worked in finance, though her passions were helping and encouraging people. She was a loved member of the Cleveland Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a loving daughter and sister, as well as a great friend to many, but her most proud title of all was Mother. Her beautiful voice touched the hearts of many. Her kindness and loving personality brought light to those around her. That light will continue to shine brightly on the lives that she touched throughout her life. For these reasons she will be remembered.

Survivors include her daughter, Jazmine Marie Stringfellow , of Gainesville, Georgia; son, Christian Kevon Stringfellow, of Ogden, Utah; sisters April Richardson and Angie Richardson, both of Cleveland, Georgia; father Jesse Lee Richardson, of Statham, Georgia.

Memorial services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. Pastor  Richard Pinero will officiate.

Latrelle Nix Edwards, age 73, of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018.

Mrs. Edwards was born in Hall County and lived most of her life in Cleveland. She was a retired White County School Teacher and a member of Cleveland First Baptist Church.  Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her father, John L. Nix.

Survivors include son, Chris Edwards, Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Fran and Salvador Barcenas, Gainesville; mother, Sarah Highsmith Nix, Gainesville; grandchildren, Payton Edwards, Christian Edwards, Brycen Garrett, and Hudson Garrett; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ken and Cathy Nix, Gainesville and Ed and Betty Nix, Greenville, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11am Saturday, October 13, 2018 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Bucky Erwin and Rev. Dennis Turner will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 5-8pm Friday, October 12, 2018 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Annie McColl Lay, age 72, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018.

Mrs. Lay was born in Glasgow, Scotland to the late James and Mary Bowman Thomson. She was a retired Social Work with the State of Georgia. Mrs. Lay had many hobbies, and loved to garden, travel and read.

Survivors include husband, Jackie Beasley, Cleveland; daughters, Brandy Neesmith, Griffin, and Jessica and Steven Peace, Athens; son, Steve and Laurie Lesan, Fairhaven, Vermont; grandchildren, Nick Neesmith, Brandon Neesmith, Taylor Lesan, Emily Queen, and Jason Queen; and great-grandson, Brantley Neesmith.

Barrett Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mr. Jerry Wayne Abernathy, Sr., age 72, of Alto, formerly of Cleveland.

Mr. Abernathy was born in White County on March 12, 1946 to Ethel Shelnut Abernathy and the late Sherman Abernathy.  He was preceded in death by father, and brothers, Tony Abernathy, Edward Abernathy, and David Abernathy.  Mr. Abernathy was a farmer and attended Zion Interdenominational Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Abernathy of Alto; daughters, Hannah Abernathy, Demorest, Becky Abernathy, Demorest, and Elizabeth Williams, Cornelia; sons, Jerry Wayne Abernathy, Jr., Alto, David Abernathy (Brenda), Alto, and Dale Abernathy, Toccoa; mother, Ethel Shelnut Abernathy, Cleveland; grandchildren, Contessa Williams, Chantelle Williams, Tiffany and Bryan Skelton, Haven Minish, and Nathan and Damien Abernathy; great-grandchildren, Harper Crue and Maren Millwood, Ian Abernathy, Tobias Abernathy, and Hunter Abernathy; sister and brother-in law, Linda and Jackie Crane, Cleveland and Peggy and Don Hadaway, Clarkesville; brothers and sisters-in law, Cecil and Sue Abernathy, Murrayville and Mitchell and Rita Abernathy, Cleveland; and brother, Garry Abernathy, Cleveland.

Phillip Gary Adams, age 56 of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018.

 

Mr. Adams was born on March 22, 1962, in Jasper, Georgia, to Gary Claude Adams and the late Mildred Goude Adams.  Phillip worked as a truck driver for Phil Mart Trucking.  He was preceded in death by his sisters, Angela Ellington and Sandra Annette Whistler.

 

Survivors include his wife, Trudy Adams, Cleveland; daughter, Kimberly Adams, Cleveland; son, Matthew Adams, Cleveland; father and step-mother, Gary and Sharlotte Adams, Cleveland; sister, Patsy Ann Adamson, Cleveland; brother, Jonathan Adams, Forsyth, Georgia; grandchildren, Madison Adams and Mason Adams.

Mrs. Jeanne Loggins Hulsey, age 75, of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018.

Mrs. Hulsey was born in White County and retired from Lumite after 20 plus years as a Supervisor.  She was preceded in death by father, Hammond Loggins and great-grandson Isaiah Nance Pea.

Survivors include husband, Fay Lance Hulsey, Cleveland; daughters and sons in law, Deborah and Paul Pasterak, Euharlee, GA and Stephanie and Chris Griffin, Houschton, GA; daughter, Jessica Patterson, Cleveland; mother, Alice Loggins, Cleveland; sister, Melba Matheson, Cleveland; 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Donald Ray Finley, age 64 of Demorest passed away peacefully at his home on September 17, 2018.

Donald was born in Gainesville, Georgia on June 7, 1954 to Margret Parker and the late John Finley. In addition to his mother, he is survived by the love of his life, Pam Finley. He is also survived by a twin sister; Kay (David) Chambers of Maysville. Sister; Mickey Finley of Gainesville. Children; Johnathan (Taylor) Barnes of Demorest, Homer Barnes of Demorest, Michael (Crystal) Finley of Cleveland, Alyssa Finley of Gainesville and Kim Finley of Gainesville.  Grandchildren RJ Finley, Amber Finley, and 6 others.

It was Mr. Finley’s wishes to be cremated and a memorial service is scheduled for Friday September 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Old Nacoochee Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Shadburn officiating. In Lieu of flower the family has asked for donation to be made to St. Judes Children’s hospital.

Hubert Grady Loggins, age 76 of Cleveland, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018.

Mr. Loggins was born on September 2, 1941, in Cleveland, Georgia, to the late H.W. and Cora Mae Lovell Loggins. He was a member of Zion Interdenominational Church and a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. John Perry Roberts, age 69, of Demorest, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018. Mr. Roberts was born in 1949 to the late Harold “Happy” and Eula Henderson Roberts. He served in the U.S Army and was a member of VFW Post #7720 of Cornelia.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Roberts is preceded in death by his brothers Charles Daniel Roberts, Jerry Roberts, and Harold Roberts.

He is survived by his wife Karen Loggins Roberts of Demorest, his daughter and son-in-law Kim and Jason Myers of Demorest, and his son and daughter-in-law Charles Anthony and Michelle Roberts also of Demorest.

He is also survived by his sisters; Vivian Jarrard of Cleveland and Barbara Black of Cleveland, his brother Xavier Roberts of Gainesville, and his grandchildren Mason Dakota Roberts, Trey Phoenix Roberts, and Tatum Lee Myers.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, August 4, 2018 at in The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Shane Jenkins, Kim Roberts, and Rev. Dave Fortner. Interment will follow at Blue Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 4-7 PM.

Mr. Donald “Donnie” Robert Palmer Westmoreland, age 66 of Cleveland, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018. Mr. Westmoreland was born in White County to Lillian Lunsford Palmer Westmoreland and to the late Robert Palmer. Donald was a retired driver instructor for North Georgia Technical College and was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diann Westmoreland and father James Westmoreland.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Damon (Gina) Westmoreland of Cleveland, his mother Lillian Westmoreland of Cleveland, and his grandchildren Jonah Westmoreland and Lilly Westmoreland. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie (Dwayne) Turner; Katie (Tim) Turner and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ledford was born in Habersham County, on February 25, 1930. She was the daughter of the late William Travis Barnes and Della Tomlin Barnes. Hazel retired from the Corneila Broom Company and she resided most of her life in Cleveland, Georgia.

Mrs. Holland was born on March 31, 1935 in Cleveland to the late Floyd and Ruth Rogers.  She was a seamstress at Belk and a member of Dewberry Baptist Church #1. Mrs. Holland was preceded in death by parents, brother, James Rogers, sister, Floy Lee Crowe, and grandson, Jacky Ray Holland.

John Wiley (J.W.) Davis Sr., age 90, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Saturday, May 26, 2018.

Born in Upson County on August 20, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Sinda Davis. J.W. was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe, Herman, and Robert Davis; sister, Nora Barrett, Florence Carter, Lena Hicks, Eunice Edge, and infant Estelle Davis.

Alton Artis Wofford, age 82, of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018.

Mr. Wofford was born on March 12, 1936, in Cleveland, Georgia, to the late Oliver and Elvie Thomas Wofford.  Before retirement, Alton worked for the Removal Transport Service.  He was a member of the Yonah Lodge # 382 F&AM and was a veteran of the United States Army.  Alton was preceded in death by an infant son, Ricky Artis Wofford; siblings, Homer Wofford, Mary Roper, Bonnell Hamby, and Buster Wofford.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Hospice of Northeast Georgia and especially to the nurses Rebecca, Devra, and Kara.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Joyce Wofford, Cleveland; son, Tony Wofford, Cleveland.
