Hope Merryn Dover, age 2, of Cleveland, went to be with Jesus Saturday, December 8, 2018.

Hope was born August 26, 2016 in Gainesville.  As a precious daughter, granddaughter, cousin, niece, and miracle from God, Hope touched a multitude of lives in her two years of life. The love that she gave and received was immeasurable and will live on forever in all the hearts and lives she touched.

Hope was preceded in victory by great-grandparents, Melba Castleberry, James and Betty Camp, Imogene Dover, Joe B. Dover, Marian C. Smith, and Bonnie Smith.

She is survived by Loving Parents, Matt and Carissa Dover, Cleveland; grandparents, Matt and Marcia Camp, Cleveland and Joe and Sharon Dover, Gainesville; great-grandfather, Marcus Castleberry, Alpharetta; aunt and uncle, Matthew and Sidney Camp; Gainesville; cousin, Titan Camp, Gainesville; and  many other close family members and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held 2 PM Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Riverpoint Community Church in Demorest.  The Rev. Kevin Mangum and Dr. Joe Vernon will officiate. Interment will follow in Yonah View Memorial Gardens.

Flowers will be acknowledged, however, the family asks for donations to be made to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital: 1001 Johnson Ferry Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30342.

Mr. Black was born on February 17, 1952, in Lithonia, Georgia, to the late Ernest and Winnie Austin Black. He was a retired dental lab technician and was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Black, Cleveland; sons, Jason Black (Tina), Gainesville, Johnny Fain (Lauren), Sautee, Jordan Black (Sarah), Sautee; brother, Gordon Black (Marsha), Clermont; sister, Donna Jammes, Dawsonville; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Danny Kastner and Rev. Jeremy Kastner  will officiate. Interment will follow at Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville.

Mrs. Dupray was born September 7, 1944 in Pittsville, MA to the late Francis and Edith Jarrard Rahilly. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her brother, Frankie and sister, Sally.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Robert Dupray, Murphy, NC; daughters, Melissa Marie Dupray, Murphy, NC; Lisa Ann Hall, Cleveland, GA; Nancy Lee Warren, Cleveland, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Bobbjean and Joseph Kisselburg, Murphy, NC; daughter, Dawn Bruce, Murrayville, GA; sister, Patricia; brothers, Robert, Daniel, Christopher, Patrick; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Cleveland Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Katie Lou Parson, age 81 of Cleveland, Georgia. Mrs. Parson passed away on October 22, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical center.

Katie was born on March 25, 1937 in Hall County, Georgia to the late Hammond Jones and the late Ida Armour. She moved to Cleveland from Gainesville around 30 years ago. Most people would remember her for her amazing biscuits she made every morning when she was employed by Mamas Kitchen in Helen. Although she will be remembered for her delicious cooking, those who knew her best will always remember her as the best Mother, Grandmother, and Aunt that anyone could ever imagine.

She was preceded in death by both parents as well as her husband, Harold Parson. She is survived by her Sons; Henry Allen of Cleveland and Johnny Parson of Cleveland. Grandchildren; Amanda (Darren) Farmer of Dawsonville, Josh Allen of Habersham, Melinda Allen of Habersham, and Pervie Parson of Cleveland. Niece and Nephew Robert and Michelle Hamilton of Dahlonega. Great Nieces and Nephews; Cody (Brittany) Hamilton of Gainesville and Cynthia (AL) Raez, also of Gainesville. In addition, she leaves behind two brothers, two sisters, and 3 Great Grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of Cleveland Funeral Home on Thursday, October 25 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Wayne Turk officiating. The family will also receive friends and family from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Thursday. Interment will follow in the cemetery of Calvary Cross Baptist Church.

Mr. Dockery was born on January 24, 1940, in Dahlonega, Georgia, to the late Wesley and Martha Lou Etris Dockery. He was a farmer and a member of Town Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school treasurer for many years. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. Mr. Dockery was preceded in death by his brother, Donald and Sara and Norma Jean Dockery; sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and J.T. Garrison; sister-in-law, Mae Dockery.

John Lynn Burrow

May 27, 1942 – October 13, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of John Lynn Burrow, age 76, of Cleveland announces his death on October 13, 2018 following period of declining health.

Born May 27, 1942 in Littlefield, Texas John Burrow was the son of the late Brent and Mildred Burrow. He attended West Texas State University, where he studied business. After college, he enjoyed a long business career with General Electric Credit Corporation, The Flower Gallery Florist and Primrose Oil.

A man of sincere faith, John Burrow was a member of Cleveland First Baptist Church. He had a gift of making everyone around him feel comfortable, loved and heard. Always kind and smiling, John was a hard worker who cared deeply, not only for his family, but for his friends as well.

He was a skilled fly fisherman and enjoyed employing his expertise in the beautiful streams of the Rocky Mountains, especially at Platoro, Colorado. He possessed the ability to envision, create, build, or repair many things.

John Burrow leaves behind his loving wife, best friend and partner for 55 years, Jeanavon Harper Burrow; daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Jon McArdle of Dallas, TX; daughter and son-in-law Julie and David Clark of Savannah, GA; and son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Anette Burrow of Craig, CO. He is also survived by a sister, Donna Kennedy of Canyon, TX; a brother and sister-in-law, Neal and Cindy Burrow of Amarillo, TX; six beloved grandsons: John and Will Burrow, Connor and Quinn McArdle, and Sam and Walter Clark; and two great-grandchildren Caleb and Brynn Lynn Burrow. He leaves behind in addition five nephews and their spouses and eleven great-nephews and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Max Kennedy.

John Burrow made a better world for all who knew him, and his family feels especially blessed and thankful to have had him in each of their lives.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Turner and the Rev. Bucky Erwin officiating.

APRIL 27, 1928 ~ OCTOBER 16, 2018 (AGE 90)

Cleveland Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Elbert “Berlin” Wike, age 90 of Cleveland, Georgia. Mr. Wike passed away on October 16, 2018 at Gateway Health and Rehab. Mr. Wike was born on April 27, 1928 to the late CG Wike Sr. and the late Ida Mae Black Wike. Being born and raised in Cleveland, Berlin enjoyed many things, including hunting the mountains for deer, spending time with his family, long rides over Tray Mountain, and most importantly, serving his community by towing broken down cars for people and also putting people into a new car from the dealership he owned for many years- Wikes Used Cars.   Berlins small town claim to fame was in 1977 when he was the “Star” of Smokey and The Bandit where he acted out the part as the tow truck driver.  Of all of the amazing things that Berlin was a part of in his lifetime, he would mostly like to be remembered as an amazing Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather and a man of God.
In addition to his parents, Berlin is preceded in death by 7 siblings, Willene Wike, Lawrence Wike, Myrtle Wheeler, Lorene Thomason, CG Wike Jr., Winnell Anderson, and Christine McCollum.
He is also preceeded in death by a son, Randy Wike, of Oakwood.
Berlin is survived by his loving wife of many years, Robbie “Bobbie”Bush Wike, of Cleveland;  Son, Ricky (Toni) Wike of Cleveland; Daughter in law, Robyn Wike, of Oakwood; Daughter Michelle (Douglas) Waters of Cleveland. Sisters, Louise Piano of Florida, Imogene Autry of Cleveland, and Yvonne Hix of Alabama.  Grandchildren, Rick Wike, Jordan Wike, Taylor Wike, and Derek Lindeborg. Great Grandchildren, Faith Blaisedell, Shawn Lindeborg, and Bailee Lindeborg. Great Great Grandchildren, Parker Blaisedell, Elizabeth Blaisedell, and Raylen Lindeborg that is due to make an arrival any day now.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 12 P.M. in the Chapel of Cleveland Funeral Home with Pastor Betty Wilson of Emmanuel Gospel Fellowship officiating. A visitation will be held on the same day from 10:30 A.M. – 12 P.M.   Special music will be played by Taylor Wike.

Lois Irene Dorsey, age 94, of Helen, passed away Monday, October 1, 2018.

 

Mrs. Dorsey was born January 20, 1924 in Lumpkin County, Georgia to Jordan and Marie Adams Pharris.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, JC Pharris, Clyde Pharris, and a sister, Carrie Lee Pharris Sims, her son, Rondall C. Dorsey, her grandson, Wallace Jay Ferguson and the father of her children, Wallace Dorsey.

 

As a child she attended Dukes Creek Baptist Church, Center Baptist Church and Chattahoochee Methodist Church.  She was a waitress for over 50 years and was beloved by all.

 

Survivors include son and daughter in law, Robert and Louise Dorsey, Cleveland; daughter and son in law, Beulah Mae and Jay Ferguson, Helen; grandchildren, Rhonda and Lamar Hester, Greg and Kristi Dorsey, Jed Ferguson and Fiancé Angie Huff, Calista Bryson and Fiancé Rev. Paul Hubert Shahan: Obituary

Mr. Paul Hubert Shahan, age 59, of Helen, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018.

Mr. Shahan was born in Floyd County to the late Paul Dean (P.D.) and Mary Lou Selman Shahan.  He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Charles Dean Shahan.  Mr. Shahan graduated from Darlington School with high honors, was a Dean’s List Graduate of Georgia Tech in 1980, and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity.  He was a Statewide Manager for Georgia Power, retiring after 36 years of service.  Mr. Shahan was a member of The Bridge Church, an avid fly fisherman and fly tyer, played guitar and “Loved to be a Yellow Jacket.”

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Jody Shahan, Helen; sons, Paul Michael (Michael) Shahan and James (Jamie) Davidson Shahan; mother in law, Mrs. Charlie Davidson; In Laws, Greg Davidson, Sautee Nacoochee and Mike and Missy Davidson, Marietta; nieces and nephew, Chase Davidson, Captain Tedi Davidson, USMC, Mackalie Davidson, Mackenzie Davidson, and Lindie Davidson.

Cleveland Funeral Home of Cleveland, Georgia announces the death of Mrs. Carolyn Smith Moorman, age 81 of Cleveland who passed away peacefully at her home on September 28, 2018.
Mrs. Moorman was born in Johnson County on January 8, 1937 to the late James Harold Smith and the late Sally Stephens. Carolyn and her husband Wyndal have resided in White County for the last 28 years, after relocating here from Laurens County. While in Laurens County, Carolyn worked for the school system as a Lunch Room worker.
In addition to both parents, Mrs. Moorman is Preceded in death by a son, Michael Moorman. In addition to her loving husband Wyndal Moorman, she is survived by a Daughter, Karen Runyan of Cleveland; Brother, Harry Smith of Dublin; Grandchildren, Anson Rountree and Caroline Shillingburg. She is also survived by 5 Great Grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in Westview Cemetery in Wrightsville, Georgia.
