Cleveland woman charged with simple battery
News December 19, 2018CLEVELAND, Ga. — White County deputies arrested 32-year-old Catherine Renee Rutter Monday and charged her with simple battery against a person 65 years of age or older.
Deputies responded to a domestic dispute call at 1:26 a.m. at 4177 Hwy. 115 East where they spoke to Rutter and 72-year-old Steven Steffunick.
According to the incident report, it was apparent she had been drinking and was slurring her words and having difficulty maintaining her balance.
She admitted hitting Steffunick but said it was because he had punched her in the face, although deputies did not see any marks on her.
Steffunick stated he had been in bed when Rutter came in and asked to use his cell phone. When he told her no, he said she began hitting and kicking him.
Deputies also learned that Rutter had a court order to stay away from Steffunick due to a charge of terroristic threats from a previous case.
Rutter was transported to the White County Detention Center.
