HELEN, Ga. – White County authorities arrested Justin Lee Myers, 21, of Cleveland, a convicted sex offender, last week and charged him with failure to register as a sex offender, providing false information, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, failure to register a firearm and violation of the terms of a probation.

Deputy Daniel Amoling spotted Myers walking near the intersection of Edelwiss Strasse and Tannen Weg in Helen and stopped to question him. The deputy informed the suspect that he had an outstanding warrant for a probation violation and that he was under arrest.

According to the arrest report, as Amoling was attempting to place Myers’ hands behind him, the suspect began to reach for a green and gold item clipped to his belt.

That item turned out to be a Penguin .380, a single-shot firearm that looks like a cell phone and fires electrically charged darts. The deputy retrieved the weapon and placed Myers in handcuffs.

CLEVELAND, Ga. — White County Sheriff’s Office deputies have charged Kylan Chase Dean, 23, of Cleveland with aggravated assault and battery following a domestic violence incident at his father’s home at 6030 Duncan Bridge Road.

According to the arrest report, Dean and his pregnant girlfriend, Jordan Rae Whitten, were living in his father’s home when an argument ensued and Dean allegedly grabbed Whitten by her throat and squeezed, causing her to choke and not be able to breathe. Whitten told deputies Dean let go and shoved her by her chest over the couch and when she landed, she was unable to move for several moments.

Whitten stated that she was in shock, and a lot of pain but was able to regain control of her body and run to the bathroom. She said Dean gave pursuit and began to hit the door of the bathroom that she was barricaded behind and every time he hit the door her head bounced off of it, causing a large knot on her head.

After the incident, Dean went to sleep on the sofa. When his father Jason Dean and Eva Ryder arrived on the scene, Jason and his son got into an altercation. Eva Ryder called 9-1-1 and Dean fled the scene.

Deputy Daniel Spivey was en route to the scene when he spotted the suspect headed south on Duncan Bridge Road with blood all over his face. Spivey drew his taser and commanded Dean to stop and put his hands in the air. Deputy Nathan Allen arrived and Dean was placed in handcuffs.

Dean told deputies when his father arrived and saw that Whitten was hurt, he attacked him and slammed him to the floor causing the cuts to his face. Dean was transported to the White County Detention Center and placed on a statement of charge. Bond was set at $15,000.

CLEVELAND, Ga. — White County authorities have arrested a Cleveland woman and charged her with battery, family violence, following an altercation at 515 Camelback Road.

The arrest report by the White County Sheriff’s Office states that Angel Heafner, 27, attacked her brother Alan Michael Heafner, scratching his face and attempting to retrieve a knife to use against him.

Michael Heafner told deputies he was asked to come to his residence after another sister, Kasie Ann Heafner said Angel, had locked her out. When he arrived home, he argued with Angel, who was staying at the home, about her alleged drug addiction and about people he did not know coming into his residence.

He said she then attacked him, scratching his face and hands. He attempted to restrain her but once he let her go, she ran onto the porch and retrieved a knife. He said he restrained her again and once she calmed down, she ran into a bedroom and locked the door.

According to the report, she admitted attacking her brother and attempted to get a knife to use against him.

Deputies arrested her and transported her to the White County Detention Center.

After arriving at the detention center, Heafner requested pictures of her arms be taken to document injuries received during the altercation. But detention staff stated that a video camera had been on Heafner since she arrived and that she was intentionally scratching her arms and legs since being placed into a cell.

CLEVELAND, Ga. — After a lengthy investigation the White County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect in the rape of a 66-year-old Cleveland woman.

According to the arrest report, Matthew Daniel Gillespie, 26, was arrested Sept 18 and charged with of Jan. 30, 2018 rape as well as first-degree burglary (felony); possession of methamphetamine; exploitation or infliction of pain or deprivation of essential services to disabled person, elder person or resident (felony); and possession of a sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon, or silencer.

The victim stated she was awakened by a male intruder in her bedroom who was wearing a white mask and white gloves. She told deputies the man was startled when a neighbor’s car started. When she told the man her neighbor usually checks on her, he left the bedroom and ran away.

One of the gloves was left behind and deputies took it into evidence.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – White County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Dahlonega man on New Year’s Day and charged him with battery, following an early morning altercation at a New Year’s Eve party in Cleveland.

Deputies arrived at 89 FM Drive at approximately 2:45 a.m. where they were told that James Randall Johnson, 43, of Dahlonega had become combative and punched one of the party goers.

According to the incident report, deputies tried to question Johnson about the incident but “he was very intoxicated” and incapable of answering. Johnson’s wife said she took a bottle of alcohol away from her husband and he became angry and went outside.

Sandy Smith, the homeowner, and Michael Imsand, 58, went outside and got Johnson to come back inside and led him to a workshop in the home away from the party in an attempt to calm him down.

When they arrived at the workshop, Johnson and Imsand fell down and Imsand struck his head on a concrete floor. Smith said Johnson attempted to punch Imsand but he grabbed Johnson’s arm.

Smith said while Imsand was laying on the floor in fear of being struck, he produced a handgun to defend himself but immediately turned the gun over to Smith. At that point, he said, Johnson struck Imsand in the nose with a closed fist.

Johnson was placed in handcuffs and transported to the White County Detention Center.

CLEVELAND Ga. – Sherry Jean Brock, 50, of Cleveland,  an employee at Friendship Health and Rehab, was arrested Saturday and charged with theft by taking checks that belonged to a patient at the facility.

White County Sheriff’s Deputy C.F. Davis was called to the facility to assist Cleveland Police Department in investigating a case of fraudulent check use. Information was gathered from the caregiver, Janet Quackenbush-King and a report from CPD that included a video of Brock at Walmart and Friendship Health and Rehab.

Cleveland Police Officer B. Wood advised that he had retrieved one of the checks missing from the victim’s checkbook from Walmart.

Quackenbush-King advised that Brock started working at the facility in November.
