WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — White County Government is pleased to announce the launch of a new and improved website. This website redesign is aimed at providing citizens with better access to information across all county departments. The website can be viewed at www.whitecountyga.gov.
Citizens will notice readily available news and announcements, as well as a full calendar of county related events, an area to easily submit public records requests and a full listing of county job opportunities – in addition to updated, functional departmental pages for the offices of elected officials and county departments.
According to Shanda Murphy, Interim County Manager and County Clerk “we appreciate the Board of Commissioners vision and support with this project and County IT Director, Joel Witcher’s, leadership on the project. White County elected officials, county department managers, and staff have work hard to develop this website and look forward to maintaining and expanding the use of this tool for the public’s benefit”.
Cowart, Collins named interim directors of White County Recreation programs

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. – With the recent retirement of White County Parks and Recreation Director Joe Gailey, Deana Cowart and Corey Collins have been named interim co-directors while county commissioners begin the process of selecting a permanent director.
Cowart will manage all administrative functions and non-sports programs. She has worked in the Park and Recreation Department for 20 years and currently serves as athletic director.
Collins will manage all sports program functions. He is new to the Parks and Recreation Department and currently serves as sports league manager.
Interim County Manager Shanda Murphy said both have extensive experience working with recreation and youth sports and will provide the level of expertise needed as the recreation programs in White County have record levels of enrollment this fall and continue to grow.
Commissioner Nix warns residents to beware of scam involving paving asphalt

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — Commissioner Edwin Nix issued a stern warning to White County residents during Monday’s meeting to beware of scammers.
Nix told of a couple of senior citizens who had been approached about doing paving work with asphalt left over from a county job. Interim County Manager Shanda Murphy said they operate under the name R and M and quote a decent price on the front end but inflate the price on the back end.
“Be careful, don’t be conned by these guys,” Nix said. “They have no heart. They don’t care how they treat you or how they conduct business. If somebody comes and approaches you about paving asphalt left over from a county job, or something like that, first of all, that should not be happening if it’s county property to start with.”
White County Sheriff’s Deputy Gus Sessam, who attended the meeting, said he was aware of two victims, one who had been scammed out of $34,000.
Shanda Murphy will serve as interim County Manager

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — The White County Board of Commissioners has announced that Shanda Murphy will serve as Interim County Manager effective June 26 – upon the resignation of Jason Cobb, who has served as County Manager since April 2020.
Mr. Cobb’s last day with White County will be June 25, 2020. Ms. Murphy currently serves as the County Clerk & Human Resources Director. She has worked in this capacity for the past 16 years.
Ms. Murphy will serve in this interim role as the Board of Commissioners continue the search to fill the County Manager position on a permanent basis.
Chairman Travis Turner said, “As the Board continues our interview process for our full-time county manager position, the Commissioners have asked Ms. Murphy to act as interim manager for a short-term basis. The board wants to see our citizens served with the best customer service and Shanda’s working knowledge will help keep business moving forward. I appreciate Shanda agreeing to continue to serve our citizens as we are growing as a community.”
Regarding this appointment, Ms. Murphy stated, “I am happy to serve the County in this interim role and I look forward to working alongside our great team of elected officials and department heads to keep all the positive things moving forward in White County until the Board can make a selection for this position. I appreciate the Board of Commissioner’s confidence in me”.
