It is with great sadness the family of Dale Dean Sr . Announces his passing on May 6, 2018 at the age of 85.  He will be remembered by his wife of 63 years, Gloria, his children, Diane Willis, Dale Dean,Jr., and Wife Diane and William Dean and wife Tami. Also, 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  Dale retired from the Fort Myers News Press after 30 years as Asst Production Manager. He loved sports and helped coach the Pop Warner Fort Myers Rebels in the 70’s.  He moved to Cleveland Georgia in the 1990’s where he enjoyed gardening,  bird watching, and working on his carpentry skills. Mrs. Nadine Mae Kubler, age 91, of Cleveland. Nadine passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 following a period of declining health. She was born in Aspinwall, PA on October 18, 1926 to the late David William Campbell and Lottie Mae Born Campbell. She was a homemaker and had lived in White County since 1975, moving from Fort Lauderdale, FL. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert W. Kubler; sons, Thomas Albert Kubler and David Kubler as well as her grandson, William Kubler.

Survivors include her son and daughter in law, John and Sharon Kubler of Sautee; granddaughter, Susan Kubler and great grandchildren, Bradley Sullens and Nicholas Sullens as well as Patrick Sorrows and William Sorrows.

It was Nadine’s request the she be cremated and no public services to be held.

Patricia Shaffer Martin, age 61 of Cleveland passed away Tuesday, May 01, 2018.

Mrs. Martin was born April 7, 1957 in East Point, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Robert Shaffer Sr. and Mary Jo Shaffer. Patricia enjoyed working with horses and riding as well. She was of the Christian Faith and enjoyed watching Dr. Charles Stanley.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Martin, Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Jannet Smith, Gainesville; step daughters, Cindy Martin-Skelton, Dana Jones; brother, Charles Robert Shaffer Jr.; grandchildren, Megan Smith, Hailey Smith; great grandson, Peyton Lee Smith.

Robbie Lee Hogan, age 55, of Cleveland, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018.

Mr. Hogan was born in Hall County and lived in White County most of his life.  He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Hogan, sister, Tammy Jean Hogan and his fiancé, Wendy Tate Brumbelow.  Robbie was an auto mechanic.  He had a huge heart and would help anyone in need. He loved his Harley and his friends. Robbie was of the Holiness faith.

Survivors include his sons, Josh Grier (Amanda), Justin Hogan, Jordan Hogan, Michael Brumbelow, Jatina Brumbelow; mother, Kathryn Hogan; brothers, Tony Hogan (Lynn), Randy Hogan (Connie); sister, Traci Finley (Troy Sharpton); granddaughter, Aubree Grier; nephews, Tony Hogan Jr., Heath Allison, Tyler Hogan, Austin Finley, Carson Finley; the mother of his son’s, Judy Hogan.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 at Union Grove Congregational Holiness Church.  The Rev. Paul Flynn and the Rev. Charles Abernathy will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Florence Teriaco, age 89, formerly of Cleveland, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.

Pamela Marie Irvin, age 61 of Cleveland, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018.

Mrs. Irvin was born on February 10, 1957, in Lumpkin County, to Margaret Taylor Dorsey and the late Harmon Dorsey. She was a teacher’s assistant at Chestatee Middle School and a member of Zion Interdenominational Church. Pam was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, who loved her family and loved her church. She was preceded in death by her father, Harmon Dorsey; father-in-law, Odell Irvin; sister, Patricia Ann Carlyle Pardue.

Cleveland Funeral Home announces that Mrs. Dessie Smelcer, age 93 of Cleveland, Georgia passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018.

She was the daughter of the late Clay Stephens and Hattie Hughes on May 29, 1924 in Dawson County. She moved to Palatka, Florida and lived there for some time until she moved back to the North Georgia Mountains in 2006 where she resided until she passed.

Dessie is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Smelcer ; Sister, Bessie Mathews of Thomaston, Ga; and Son Bill Smelcer of Powder Springs

She is survived by one sister, Bunny Whitfield of Cleveland; Son Jim Smelcer of Ellijay; Daughter Lynn Smith of Cleveland; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

A graveside service is scheduled for Monday, April 30 at 2:00 P.M. in the cemetery at Friendship Baptist Church .

Mrs. Mary Patricia Sumner, age 85 of Clarkesville, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 with her loving daughters, Lynne and Maryette, by her side, aided by the Northeast Georgia Hospice North Team.

Mrs. Sumner was born October 4, 1932 in Conyers, GA to the late Ruby James and Mary Lou Frances Waits. She worked as a secretary for Gulf Oil Company and was also a member of Clarkesville United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents and siblings, Mrs. Sumner is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Sumner.

Survivors include her daughter Maryette Mixon of Clarkesville; daughter Lynne Menard of Ormond Beach, FL, and son, Jeff White of Acworth, GA.

A memorial service for Mrs. Sumner will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Clarkesville United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Cox officiating.

Mary Daugherty was born on August 10, 1939 in Missouri. She went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on March 28, 2018 at 9:15p.m at her home with her loving husband by her side. Mary was 78 years old. She met her amazing husband Bill Daugherty through a series of events magically sewn together by the Lord. After a few years of dating, they were married on August 30, 1958 in Richmond, MI.

Mary is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bill Daugherty Sr., Daughter Kathy Pert, and her sons Ron (Esther) Daugherty; Bill (Kim) Daugherty; Rick (Kim) Daugherty; Dan (Mellissa) Daugherty; Ken (LeAnn) Daugherty; Duwayne (Sherry) Daugherty, 27 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and her siblings: Jim, Richard, Joyce, George, Paul, and many extended family and countless friends whom she has touched over the years.

She is preceded in death by parents Fred and Violet Albers and her brothers Don, Junior, and Bobby.

Mary was an active member of her church, Bethesda Fellowship in Cornelia, GA. Her faith was beyond compare and the light of God shone so brightly in all she did.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 4:00 PM at Bethesda Fellowship Church 2555 Duncan Bridge Rd. SW Cornelia, GA 30531. The Rev. John Graham will officiate. Interment will follow at Yonah View Memorial Gardens 3265 Helen Hwy. Cleveland, GA 30528.

Zell Bryan Miller passed away peacefully on March 23, 2018 at the age of 86.

Zell Miller was born on February 24, 1932 in Young Harris, Georgia to Stephen Grady Miller and Birdie Bryan Miller. Zell’s father died when he was seventeen days old and his widowed mother raised Zell and his older sister, Jane, in a house she built herself with rocks that she hauled out of a nearby stream.

Zell grew up in Young Harris and graduated from Young Harris College in 1951 before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served from 1953-1956, obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He credited his success in life to both the discipline his learned in the Marine Corps and the perseverance he learned from his mother.

Zell married Shirley Carver on January 14, 1954. They were married for 64 years and together they had two sons. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a Master’s degree in history in 1958. After graduation, he returned to Young Harris College where he began a long career as an educator.

Zell Miller served as Mayor of Young Harris from 1959-1960. He served as a Georgia State Senator from 1961-1964. He served as Lieutenant Governor of Georgia for 16 years from 1975-1991. He is currently the longest serving Lieutenant Governor in Georgia history.

Zell Miller served as the 79th Governor of Georgia from 1991-1999. As Governor, he created the HOPE (Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally) Scholarship and Georgia’s Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Program. He went on to serve in the U.S. Senate from 2000-2005.

Today, more than 1.8 million students have gone to college in Georgia on HOPE Scholarships and more than 1.6 million four-year olds have begun their education through Georgia’s Pre-K Program. These were his proudest achievements in his 46-year career in public service.

At the time of his passing, he was a lifetime member of the Board of Trustees at Young Harris College and a member of the Board of Trustees at Mercer University.

Zell Miller was preceded in death by his father Stephen Grady Miller, mother Birdie Bryan Miller, and sister Jane Miller Ross. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Carver Miller; sons, Murphy Carver Miller and Matthew Stephen Miller; granddaughter, Asia Miller Bowles; grandsons, Justin Grady Miller, Andrew Stephen Miller, and Bryan William Miller; and eight great-grandchildren.

J.T. Edward Wade, age 80 of Cleveland, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018.

Mr. Wade was born on April 16, 1937, in Cleveland, Georgia, to the late Homer and Lonnie Mae Kinsey Wade.  J.T. was preceded in death by his son, Tim Wade.  Mr. Wade owned and operated J.T. Wade Saw Mill.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Wade, Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Jen Wade, Woodstock; daughter-in-law, Lisa Wade, Cleveland; grandchildren, Brody Wade, Leann Fuller, Jon-Jay Wade, Katie Sellari, and Erin Sellari; and great grandchild, Fern Fuller.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home.  The Rev. Gary Heffner will officiate.  Interment will follow at Zion Interdenominational Church Cemetery.
