BOC ready to set rollback millage rate

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. The White County Board of Commissioners will set the 2022 millage rollbackrate at 9.505 when it meets in a called session Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the County Administration Building on Helen Hwy.
The county initially sent a notice to the newspaper that the millage rate would be set at 10 mils because the tax digest was late coming in, When the digest finally came in, it was better than had been anticipated, leading commissioners to decide to lower the rate a full percentage point to 9.505
The Board will also consider Kendyl Brock’s request to rezone 5.14 acres at 540 Ascension Trail in Cleveland to be placed into the County’s short-term rental program.
The Board will also consider Margaret Guzinski and Carl Heck’s request to reason 1 acre at 349 Horton Creek Road in Helen to be placed into the County’s short-term rental program.

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. – The White Count Board of Commissioners will hold a rare called meeting Thursday, Dec. 15 at 9 a.m. in the County Administration Building on Helen Hwy. in Cleveland.
Key items on the agenda include the replacement of Fire Engine No. 2 requested by Public Safety Director David Murphy, the rising cost of waste disposal and a contract with Waste Management and a sign project proposed by the White County Chamber of Commerce.

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. – The White County Board of Commissioners will hold a called meeting Thursday (Sept. 9) at 930 a.m.in the County Administration Building.
Commissioners will consider the purchase of a 2021 Ford Explorer for the County administration, a van for the Senior Center and a replacement bridge for Airport Road from Contech, Inc.
The Board will then consider entering into executive session in order to discuss matters of personnel, real estate and litigation.

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. – The White County Board of Commissioners is expected to approve the employment contract for Joey Cason, the new County Manager when it meets in a called meeting Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the Administration Building, 1235 Helen Highway.
Cason was declared the sole finalist on Aug. 11. Most recently he served as Executive Director of the Camden County Public Service Authority (PSA). His Public Service career began in 1976 at the age of 15, where he worked for the Valdosta Parks and Recreation Department (VPRD) cleaning bathrooms and preparing ball fields for games. In 1981, he joined the staff at the Valdosta YMCA in Youth Sports as a full time employee.
He has worked as a Recreation Supervisor at Valdosta State Prison, Athletic Director for the City of Albany, Associate Executive Director for the Valdosta YMCA, Recreation Director for the City of Brunswick and Executive Director for the Greater Columbus Sports and Events Council. Cason also ran a successful private business for 20 years.
In other business, the Board will consider project designations for funding under the American Rescue Plan Act.
The Act which was passed in March is part of a $1.9 trillion package that was intended to combat COVID-19, including public health and economic impacts.
Commissioners will also discuss approval of the grant application for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) funding for Windstream’s proposed expansion of broadband services in White County.

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — The White County Board of Commissioners will hold a combined work session and called meeting Monday Nov. 30 at 4:30 p.m. in the County Administration Building on Helen Hwy.
There are several New Business items on the agenda to be discussed, including:
- The purchase of information technology back-up software the White County Network System;
- Revisions to the Recreation Department Fee Schedule;
- Purchase and installation of lightning detector for the Yonah Preserve Ballfield Complex;
- Proposed improvements to the Health Department facilities;
- Establishment of a compensation policy for members of boards, committees and authorities appointed and overseen by the Board of Commissioners;

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. – The White County Board of Commissioners will consider a cost of living allowance (COLA) for county employees and setting compensation for Board of Elections and Registration members when they meet in a combined called meeting and work session Monday (Sept. 28) at 4:30 p.m. in the County Administration Building.
