Cleveland Funeral Home of Cleveland, Georgia announces that Ms. Linda Carol (Slatton) Camp passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on August 22, 2018.

Ms. Camp was born on July 14, 1942 in Whitwell, Tennessee  to the late Leroy Slatton and Elva Almond. She is survived by a brother and sister in law, Sam (Shirley) Slatton of Whitwell, TN. ; Daughter, Renee (Darryl) Lovell of Cleveland, GA.  Daughter, Karen (Geary) Camp of Cleveland, GA. ; Granddaughter Karley (Austin) Giles of Cleveland, GA. ; She is also survived by one great grandchild, Warryn Ellie Giles, Also of Cleveland.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 from 3-5 p.m. at Generation Church, 7702 Duncan Bridge Rd, Cleveland, GA.   A Memorial Service will begin at 5 p.m. following visitation in the sanctuary of the church.   There will be another Memorial Service on Saturday, August 25 at 1 P.M (C.S.T.) at the First Baptist Church in Whitwell, Tennessee. Visitation will be held prior to that service also, between the hours  of 11 a.m. and  1 p.m. (C.S.T.)

In lieu of flowers, Ms. Camp would love for memorial donations to be made to Generation Church. All Memorial Funds will go towards building a church in the mission field in memory of our loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Sister, Linda Carol Camp.

Cleveland Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Joshua Maurice Wayne Tench, age 31 of Cleveland,  Georgia.  Mr. Tench passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018.

Joshua, more commonly known as Josh, was born on November 28, 1986 in Atlanta, Georgia to Maurice Tench and Julia Fischel. In addition to both parents, Josh is survived by a brother, Cody Burrell; Sister, Brandy Tech; Children, Mitzi and Kenneth Tench.   He is preceded in death by  a sister, Courtney Tech.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 22 from 12-2p.m.   Immediately after, there will be a funeral service at 2p.m. in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in the Tench Family Cemetery.

Mr. Joe Nathan Turner, age 93, of Cleveland, Georgia passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019.

Mr. Turner was born in Covington, KY, the son of Luther Turner and Dora Davis Turner. Joe was of the Baptist faith and was a Master Carpenter and Homebuilder. He was well known for his custom built homes, including the 10 he built and lived in with his beloved wife, Alice Cain Turner, who preceded him in death. After he retired, he and his wife traveled all over the United States and Canada and made many friends along the way. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by the following siblings: Berry Turner, Martha Cain, Herbert Turner, Carlton Turner, and Magdalene Winstead.

Wayne Julian “W.J.” Sims, age 83 of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2019.

Mr. Sims was born on August 5, 1936, in White County, to the late Arvil and Grovie Vandiver Sims. He was a retired, self-employed carpenter and a member of the Cleveland Worship Center. Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Wright; brother, Kenneth Sims.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Denton Sims; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Jeanie Sims, Cleveland, Daniel and Joan Sims, Cleveland, and Christopher and Melanie Sims, Clarkesville; grandchildren, Anthony Sims, Kriston Sims Mauldin, Suzanne Sims Harris, Amelia Sims, Andrew Sims, Vicky Morris, Charlotte Sims, Eli Sims, Emery Sims, Emmet Sims, Elsie Sims, and Evan Sims; sister, Patricia Sutton, Helen; brother, Terry Sims, Helen; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild.

Mr. James Carlton Howard age 60 of Cleveland passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019.

Mr. Howard was born on September 13, 1959, in Gainesville, GA, to the late Carl Thomas Howard and Dorothy Frances Helton Howard. He was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church in Gillsville, GA. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Ray Howard and Randall Howard.

Survivors include his sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Richard Pass, and Glenda and Phillip Dispain; sister, Rachel Howard; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Patsy Howard, and Richard and Jane Howard; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to express their gratitude to James’ caregivers, Richard and Donna Pass.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 7, 2019 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Mike Gaines, the Rev. Bobby Jones, and the Rev. Royce Winters will officiate.

Shelton Merritt III: Obituary

Shelton Merritt III, age 69, of Sautee-Nacoochee, passed away on Monday, September 30th, 2019.

 

He was born on September 9th, 1950 and is survived by his mother, Maryalice Sly and two sisters, Jo Cedola and Judith Gessleman. Shelton worked as a police officer and homicide detective in Miami-Dade for over twenty years and retired to a peaceful cabin in Georgia. He was very well loved by friends and family, and always one for a good story.

 

Private services are being held with close family and friends.

James Harold Walden, Jr., age 62 of Clermont, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019.

Mr. Walden was born on March 25, 1957, in Gainesville, Georgia, to the late James Harold Walden, Sr. and the late Bessie Irene Jarrard. James worked for the Georgia Department of Transportation, was retired from the Duluth post office, and was a member of Skitts Mountain Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Nancy Walden, Clermont; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Natasha Jenkins, Clermont; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Joey Lindsey, Cleveland; grandchildren, Tyler and Stella Lindsey, Cassie Lindsey, Alyssa Jenkins, Kaylee Jenkins, Jenna Brooke Jenkins, and Andrew Jenkins; great grandchildren, Rob Lindsey and Mila Lindsey; sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyliss and David Sullens, Johnnie Sue and Jeff Cowart; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ricky and Robbie Walden, Jason and Missy Walden; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Skitts Mountain Baptist Church. The Rev. Kyle Savage will officiate. Interment will follow at Skitts Mountain Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Terry Pressley Grier, age 53, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019.

 

Mr. Grier was born in Habersham County, was a graduate of Habersham Central High School and was employed by Kubota.

 

Survivors include wife, Karen Grier, Cleveland; son, Josh Garrett, Cleveland; daughter, Christina Garrett; mother, Mamie Arrowood Croy; father, David Grier; sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Luther Mize and Mary Jane and Wesley Roberson; 5 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Memorial services are scheduled for 2 PM Thursday, September 19, 2019 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Brandon Hester will officiate.

Victor Howard Henderson: Obituary

Cleveland Funeral Home & Cremation Services announces that Victor Howard Henderson, 88, of Alpharetta, Georgia passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019.

Vic went to high school in Clinton, TN, where he fell in love at first sight with his wife of 63 years, Dot Carden Henderson.  After high school, Vic proudly served in the Air Force for 4 years during the Korean War.  Vic then joined Southern Railway where he spent his entire career, retiring in 1987 from what is now known as Norfolk Southern.  Shortly after retirement, Vic and Dot moved to the mountains of north Georgia, spending the next 24 years living in Skylake, Sautee GA.  Those were absolutely the best years of their lives, where they both volunteered with the Forest Service, were active at Cleveland United Methodist Church, sold a little real estate, traveled the US, and spent many great times with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and wonderful friends in the Sautee community.  Vic lived a full life, impacting many folks along his journey.  His gentle demeanor made everyone he touched feel loved and accepted – a trait that we can all learn from as we challenge ourselves to be better Christians and caring people.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Dot Henderson. By his son Terry Reese Henderson, brother Frank Henderson and grandchild Michelle.

Mr. Henderson is survived by his children Tammy Henderson of Norcross, GA and Tim Henderson (Karen) of Alpharetta, GA. Also, by his siblings Alvin Henderson of Huntsville, AL, Wanda Wilson of Asheville, NC, Mary Boyd (Jimmy) of Powell, TN, and sister in law Marie Henderson of Tullahoma, TN.  He is survived by three grandchildren Katherine, Brandon, and Brianna. He has six great grandchildren Ansley, Emerson, Cardyn, Kenleigh, Brody, and Chloe.

The funeral service will be at 3:00pm on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel.

Cleveland Funeral Home & Cremation Services announces that Donna Lynn Walden age 65 of Lula, Georgia passed away on August 15, 2019 in her home surrounded by her loving friends and family. She was born on May 12, 1954 to the late Willis Watkins and Sally Ronea Nix. She was a lifelong resident of North East Georgia and was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas “Tommy” Walden of Lula; Sons, Brian Walden of Cleveland, and Kyle (Shanna) Walden of North Hall; Grandchildren, Dakota Walden, Cheyenne Walden, Mckayla Walden, and Madilyn Walden; and one Great Grandchild, Aidan Walden.

Services are scheduled for Sunday, August 18, 2019 at 4:00 pm in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Home with Pastor Kyle Savage of Skitts Mountain Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Sunday, prior to the service.

Mr. Westmoreland was born on August 22, 1938, in White County, to the late Aaron and Marie Price Westmoreland. He was a retired road superintendent for White County and a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. Jewell was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Nix Westmoreland; sons, Tommy Westmoreland and Larry Westmoreland; brothers, Tommy Westmoreland, Julian Westmoreland, James Westmoreland, and Julius Westmoreland; sister, Louise Martin.

Geneva E. Humphries: Obituary

Mrs. Geneva E. Humphries, age 84 of Cleveland, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019.

Geneva E. Humphries was born March 24, 1935 to Griffin and Adell (Palmer) Thomas in Lumpkin County, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband of 64 years, Russell Humphries.

Geneva was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, The Young at Heart, and The Shoal Creek Goodwill Circle. She loved to travel with family and friends, with the Golden Wheels Club, and other travel clubs. She visited most all the US states and several countries to see God’s beautiful creations. She enjoyed her family, growing beautiful flowers, and working her may talents. She was known for her handmade gifts.

Geneva was a second mom and nanny to so many. Their door was always open with a warm welcome. Russell and Geneva took their girls and friends camping, they traveled far and near with the grandchildren’s clogging team. They have so many extended family members and they were the best at being great-grandparents! She had so much love for her family and friends. All that knew her loved and admired her.

Geneva is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sherrell and Jackie Sisum and Kathey and Michael Thomas; grandchildren, Jody and Deana Self, Michael and Nellie Joiner, Eric and LeAnn Thomas, James and Kellie Garrett; great-grandchildren, Alston Self, Bryson Self, Joslyn Self, Madlyn Self, Cooper Joiner, Jackson Thomas, Lilly Thomas, and Mack Garrett; brothers and sisters, LC and Zoella Thomas, Theiron and Syble Thomas, Grady and Becky Thomas, Genell Thomas and Larry Clark, Danny and Mildred Pardue, Stanley and Lori Thomas; sisters-in-law, Ruth Fain and Janice Humphries; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Danny and Susan Thomas; her favorite dog, Princess.

Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Stacy Dyer, the Rev. Chris Anderson, and the Rev. Randall Ewing will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home and again from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
