CLEVELAND, Ga. – A Cleveland woman was arrested last week and charged with simple battery, driving under the influence and failure to maintain lane.

According to the incident report, White County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call in reference to a domestic dispute at 378 Heather Way where they were met by Jesse Lee Sears, 37. Waters told them him and his girlfriend 40-year-old Ali Renee Marie Ann Harrison, 40, had been arguing.

Sears said Harrison had been drinking all day and that the argument became physical when he tried to keep her from driving. Deputies observed scratches on his face, wrists and chest. Sears said she drove off in a black Volkswagen before they arrived.

Deputies located the vehicle and made a traffic stop at Hwy. 255 South and Huntington Drive.

Deputies noticed Harrison had a black eye and asked how she got it. She said she was sitting in her car listening to music and Sears wanted her to turn it down. When she refused, he told her to get her things from inside the house and leave. She said when she attempted to do that Sears threw her on the ground and kicked her in the face. She said he must have received the scratches when she was trying to defend herself.

Sears said she got the black eye when he pushed her away to prevent her from scratching him and she fell and hit her head on the table.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – White County deputies have charged 54-year-old Kenneth Wayne Law, of Cleveland, with battery, willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer and possession of marijuana after his ex-girlfriend accused him of beating and kicking her.

On Aug. 13, Deputy Daniel Amoling was called to 1283 Westmoreland Road in connection with a domestic dispute. Vickie Nix reported that she was at her son’s home on TS Drive when Law began beating on the door and trying to knock it down.

Nix said he eventually made entry through a rear door and began hitting and kicking her and threw her on the floor. She said he told her was going to his vehicle then come back and kill her.  According to the incident report, while he was outside she ran to another residence where there were some Georgia Power workers and she ran to them asking for help.

She said Law then grabbed her by the arm, but she broke away and ran again and he got into his truck and left.

Law was located the next day and, following a foot chase through the woods, he was arrested and transported to the White County Detention Center.

Bryan Christopher Thornton

CLEVELAND, Ga. – White County deputies arrested Bryan Christopher Thornton, 39, of Cleveland last week, following a 911 call referencing a suspicious person knocking on a door in Sautee.

White County Sheriff’s Captain Rick Kelley said when deputies located Thornton, he told them he was lost. However, Thornton was wearing an empty gun holster and carrying handcuffs. Kelley said the deputies also discovered paperwork and a bolt cutter in close proximity to Thornton they believe to have been stolen.

Thornton was transported to the White County Detention Center where he was charged with possession of tools for the commission of a crime, entering an automobile, criminal trespass, theft by taking, and criminal attempt to commit burglary.

The investigation is ongoing, said Kelley.

A Cleveland man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Stephanie Smith, 42, also of Cleveland.

According to a press release from Lt. Rick Kelley of the White County Sheriff’s Office, 35-year-old Justin Scott Mayo came to the sheriff’s office and reported that his girlfriend was unresponsive at their house.

White County deputies along with EMS immediately responded to 794 Stanley Nix Rd. Once at the residence deputies found the victim deceased in her bedroom. The victim had significant injuries and trauma to her body. White County Sheriff’s Office Investigators along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene. Investigators processed the scene, collected evidence, and conducted numerous interviews.

During the investigation they discovered Mayo and the victim had been involved in a verbal altercation in Helen late the previous night. The victim’s body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Decatur for an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – White County authorities have made an arrest in the Sept. 30 burglary of a home on Sautee Trail that netted more than $24,000 in cash, jewelry, silverware and electronics.

Joshua Adam Doster

Joshua Adam Doster, 40, of Baldwin, was arrested last Tuesday (Nov. 21) and charged with first degree burglary, theft by taking and identity theft. He is being held without bond in the White County Detention Center

The occupant of the residence, Ann Day, was on vacation in Florida when the burglary occurred. Marcia Rougeou, a friend who had been asked to take care of some plants inside the residence while Day was gone, entered the home and noticed several items out of place. She and her husband then called the White County Sheriff’s Office to report the robbery.

Among the items identified as stolen were a gold wedding band that belonged to Day’s late husband, a diamond ring valued at $16,000, silverware valued at $2,775, a computer, a television set and $500 cash.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Captain Rick Kelley of the White County Sheriff’s Office wants area residents to be aware there is a phone scam that has been going on within the county.

Kelly said in a press release today that the sheriff’s office has received several reports of one scam where a person is calling citizens claiming to be Capt. Tim Chapman with the White County Sheriff’s Office. The scammer then advises the citizen that they didn’t show up for jury duty and that there is now a warrant for their arrest or there is a warrant about to be issued for their arrest unless the citizen pays a fee. The scammer will ask the citizen to get a money order or put the money on a “Green Dot” card. The scammers have been using the phone number 706-250-9798.

Another scam that is going around is that citizens are receiving calls from a person claiming to be with Publisher’s Clearinghouse or with Readers Digest. The caller is advising the citizen that they have won several million dollars and sometimes even a car. The caller will ask the citizen to send them some money such as $100 or $200 to help get the claim process started. Again the caller will often ask the citizen to send them a money order. A common number that has been showing up on this scam is 876-505-7992.

Kelley says if you receive one of these calls you can contact the White County Sheriff’s Office at 706-865- 5177 to report it. Citizens are urged not to send any money. Any money that is sent cannot be recovered. Remember if it sounds too good to be true then it is usually not true.

The White County Sheriff’s Office is following up on the jury summons scam that uses the White County Sheriff’s Office title. There is a Capt. Tim Chapman that works for the White County Sheriff’s Office. However he is not the person that is calling citizens. The White County Sheriff’s Office will never call a person and ask for money. The investigation is ongoing.

Jonathan Keith Roberts

CLEVELAND, Ga. – The White County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in locating a Cleveland man who was reported missing last week.

Jonathan Keith Robbins is 30 years old, a white male, 5’11” tall who weighs approximately 170 pounds  and has brown hair and  brown eyes.

He was last seen on Monday May 22^nd at Partin Rd. and Hwy 129 South, of Cleveland.  He was wearing shorts, a t-shirt and flip flops.

Anyone with information on Robbins whereabouts is asked to call Kelley at the White County Sheriff’s Office  706-865- 6717.

Michael Allison charged with battery.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – A Murrayville man accused of beating his girlfriend, damaging her car and leaving her battered and bruised at her home in Cleveland has been arrested again nearly 10 months after the incident took place.

Michael Allison, 34, was initially arrested in Jan. 2017 but made bond and disappeared before his court date. He was arrested by Hall County on unrelated charges this month and served with a White County warrant for assault, battery and failure to appear in court. He is currently being held on $10,000 bond.

According to the incident report, deputies responded to a call at 156 Brookwood Lane in Cleveland on Jan. 19 where they found the victim, Nichole Martin, on the front porch with a large knot on her forehead and blood coming from her nose.

Martin told White County Sheriff’s Office deputies she and Allison had been arguing about his drug use and when she tried to leave, he disabled her car, came back inside and punched her in the face. She added that when she ran outside, he followed her and head butted her, punched her several more times then began trying to bust out the front windshield of the car, hitting the front and side of the car and leaving dents in it before leaving the home on foot.
