CLEVELAND, Ga. – White County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 43-year-old Cleveland man Saturday after he allegedly struck his mother and threatened to burn her house and barn.

Jonathan David Sarbon has been charged with battery, making terroristic threats and disorderly conduct.

According to the incident report, the victim’s husband John Joyner called 911 after hearing his wife, Jane Joyner, scream. He then went outside to talk to Sarbon who had flipped a 4-wheeler on its side. Joyner said Sarbon wanted the keys to the vehicle and when he refused, Sarbon threatened to burn the 4-wheeler, the house and the barn.

Jane Joyner stated her son had been drinking, started an argument and began cursing at her. She added that Sarbon pushed her and deputies observed an injury to her elbow.

Sarbon, who had fled into the nearby woods, returned to the residence and was taken into custody before being transported to the White County Detention Center where bond was not set.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Tony Eli Martin, of Cleveland was arrested Sunday evening and charged with three counts of battery, following an argument with his girlfriend at 61 Sunshine Lane in Cleveland.

Deputies with White County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call for a physical domestic in progress and found Martin, who, according to the arrest report, “could barely maintain his balance and had extremely slurred speech.”

Laurie Gail Duncan, 57, told deputies she awoke to find Martin and Taylor Corrine Stevens, 20, his girlfriend, involved in a fistfight and tried to separate them when Burton Longwell, 82, entered the room and also tried to separate the two.

Longwell stated Martin then shoved him down a set of steps causing him to hit his head on a desk. Stevens suffered a busted lip and bruised arms and Duncan had a cut finger. Non requested medical attention.

Martin also he had an outstanding warrant from Hall County. He was arrested and transported to White County Detention Center.

CLEVELAND, Ga. –Jonathan Andrew Sells, 33, of Blairsville was arrested by White County Sheriff’s Office deputies last week and charged with battery and obstruction of a 9-1-1 call.

According to the incident report, deputies were called 500 Thomas Road on Nov. 14 in reference to a physical domestic dispute between a son and father and that the parties had been separated.

Upon arrival, Deputy Benjamin Couch met with Rex and Elizabeth Sells. Rex Sells advised that their son, Jonathan Sells, had become physically violent following an argument with his father. Couch observed blood on Rex’s face and shirt

According to the arrest report, the son had been taking apart a cell phone and caught the carpet on fire. When the father came into the room to find out what was smoking, Jonathan was standing in the room staring at the fire. Rex Sells became upset and an argument ensued. Jonathan struck Rex in the face. Rex responded by striking Jonathan back.

Rex then told Jonathan he was going to call 911. Jonathan threatened to kill Rex and lunged toward him to stop him. Rex was able to get away and call 911.

Elizabeth advised that Jonathan has mental health issues and has not been the same since he returned from college. Both Elizabeth and Rex are concerned due to Jonathan’s behavior growing more and more aggressive.

Rex Sells was arrested later that day.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Linton Gordon Adams, 20, of Cleveland was arrested Sunday and charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly brandished a revolver and threatened to kill Steven Ruis, a friend of Adams’ mother.

According to the police report Adams had been arguing with his wife Faith Adams. When he attempted to get in his vehicle to leave, Ruis said Adams’ mother, Amy Eller, attempted to stop him because he was intoxicated.

The argument then escalated to include Eller and Ruis and at some point, Adams allegedly went into the residence at 336 Nelms Road to retrieve a weapon and threatened to kill Ruis.

Eller told police that Adams’ grandparents came outside and took the pistol from her son at which point, he walked back into his grandparents’ residence and said he was going to hang himself if he went to jail.

Deputies Michael Ramey and Chris Williamson of the White County Sheriff’s Office say when they arrived at the scene Adams was staggering while walking and very erratic in his speech.

Williamson recovered the pistol and gave it to Ramey who placed Linton under arrest and escorted him to the White County Detention Center where he was being held without bond.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – A Cleveland man is in the White Count Detention Center today charged with the murder of 31-year-old Joshua Wayne Tench at a residence at 375 Oglethorpe Lane in Cleveland last week.

Corporal Charles Brantley of the White County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene in response to a 9-1-1 call regarding a shooting. When he arrived, he encountered 60-year-old Ronnie Elwynn Pate and a female, Julia Lavonne Fischel, 51, outside a trailer. Fischel said the victim was inside the trailer and needed help.

According to the incident report, Brantley entered the trailer and found the deceased laying on the floor. White County EMS and the fire department arrived at that time and before the body was moved, Brantley took photos of the scene.

In describing what happened, Pate told deputies Tench was arguing with Fischel, the deceased’s mother, so he went inside and laid down. He said Tench then began breaking the windows of the trailer. Pate said he always has a shotgun beside his bed and that Tench charged in and tried to take the shotgun away from him when he was shot. Pate told Brantley he feared for his life.

Pate was taken to the detention center and questioned before being charged with murder.

The shooting is being investigated by the White County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
