Sautee woman charged with jewelry theft

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — Rhonda Black, 40, of Sautee was arrested Nov. 21 and charged with stealing more than $7,000 worth of jewelry from a residence on Mill Creek Drive in White County.

Melanie Black first noticed a sapphire ring missing as she was getting dressed to go to a funeral on Nov. 16. After she discovered the ring missing, she began to look around and noticed an emerald ring was also missing along with a gold bracelet a pair of earrings and a White County High School graduation ring, Class of ’95.

She estimated the value of the stolen jewelry to be about $7,100 and told investigators from the White County Sheriff’s Office she believed her brother-in-law’s wife, Rhonda Black stole the items.

Rhonda Black turned herself into authorities on Nov. 21 and is being held at the White County Detention Center with bond set at $15,000. Capt. Rick Kelley said some of the missing jewelry was located at a business in Lumpkin County.

Mitch Simpson charged with theft by conversion

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Mitch Simpson, a well-known car dealership owner, has been charged with three felony counts of theft by conversion.

According to press release by Capt. Rick Kelley, of the White County Sheriff’s Office, Simpson was taken into custody by state officials Tuesday (March 26) after the Georgia Department of Revenue filed the charges.

Simpson was arrested after customers complained that his White County dealership – Mitch Simpson Motors — closed suddenly, without providing paperwork for their purchases that would allow them to obtain tags.

The investigation is continuing.

Bodies found at Yonah Mountain Campground identified

CLEVELAND, Ga. – White County authorities have identified the two people found dead at Yonah Mountain Campground last week.

Capt. Rick Kelley of the White County Sheriff’s Office said the two are 82-year-old Norman George and Linda Katherine George, 79.

Kelley said foul play is not suspected, pending the Georgia Bureau of Investigation toxicology report. The bodies were transported to the GBI State Crime Lab in Decatur for autopsies.

As of Tuesday morning, the result of the autopsies were incomplete.

White County deputies were conducting a welfare check when the bodies were discovered inside a camper on Fleetwood.

Cleveland women charged with armed robbery

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Captain Rick Kelley of the White County Sheriff’s Office reported today (April 26) that two Cleveland women were arrested this week and charged with the armed robbery of John Bridgers, also of Cleveland.

In a press release, Kelley said Jennifer Michelle Davis, 34, and Sonya Marie Fuller, 38, requested Bridgers come to Fuller’s residence on Skitts Mountain Road to tow a vehicle that was broken down and when he arrived at approximately 7:38 p.m. he was robbed at gunpoint.

Kelley said the victim is not a tow truck driver, but was an acquaintance of the suspects.

White County Sheriff’s Office Investigators responded to the address to follow up on the report and arrested Davis and Fuller. Both were charged with armed robbery and transported to the White County Detention Center where they are being held without bond. The investigation is ongoing.

BOLO Issued for Suspects Who Attempted to Break Into the Gun Commander

CLEVELAND, Ga. — An attempted break-in at the Gun Commander store south of Cleveland Wednesday led the White County Sheriff’s Office to issue a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert for the suspects who were reportedly in two separate cars — a dark-colored Dodge Durango and Chevy Malibu.

Criminal Investigation Division Capt. Rick Kelley says the incident occurred before daylight Wednesday morning at approximately 4:45 am. The suspects, who repeatedly attempted to break the front window of the business, wore masks or hooded sweatshirts.
