CLEVELAND, Ga. – A 40-year-old Cleveland man was charged with battery after a verbal dispute with his wife turned violent last week.

Deputies with the White County Sheriff’s Office were called to a mobile home at 2802 Hwy. 115 West Sept. 5 by Allison Brown who said she and her husband Robert Davidson Brown had been drinking and was verbally abusive toward her. According to the arrest report, the argument escalated and Mr. Brown attempted to wrap his arm around her head and in the process, split her lip. Mr. Brown said he had no idea how that happened.

While at the home, deputies learned that Mr. Brown had outstanding warrants in another jurisdiction. Brown was then arrested and transported to the White County Detention Center.

CLEVELAND, Ga. — Justin Myers, 22 of Cleveland, has been arrested along with 30 others in Georgia in a nationwide crackdown on child internet sex crimes conducted by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

Myers was arrested last month by White County deputies for failing to register as a sex offender and other charges.

Ten ICAC Task Forces in eight states coordinated the operation. Law enforcement targeted suspects who possess and distribute child pornography. They also focused on those who exploit children in other ways using technology and the internet.

As part of the operation, officers arrested 82 suspects over three days. A spokeswoman for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation says 17 children were rescued or identified as victims.

“The dedicated law enforcement professionals that are part of the Georgia ICAC Task Force will not cease searching for those who are producing, trading and collecting this graphic material,” says state task force commander Debbie Garner.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – White County authorities have arrested a 42-year-old Cleveland man on a charge of computer pornography.

Billy Eller was arrested on Jan. 25 after he allegedly sent “inappropriate” text messages to a 16-year-old female victim.

Captain Rick Kelley, of the White County Sheriff’s Office,  said Eller allegedly sent multiple text messages to the victim over a period of time.

Eller was booked into the White County Detention Center and bonded out the same day.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – White County authorities have charged 33-year-old Cale Lee Abernathy of Cleveland,  with hit and run, aggravated assault, aggressive driving and failure to report an accident after he allegedly drove his Toyota pickup truck into to the rear of another man’s vehicle, forcing him off the road and down an embankment.

The victim, Nicholas Nottingham, 31 of Cleveland, suffered only minor injuries.

Nottingham said he was on his way to retrieve some belongings from the home of an ex-girlfriend, Carie Abernathy, Cale Abernathy’s ex-wife.

As he approached the home, he spotted Abernathy who, he said, attempted to punch him through an open car window. He then attempted to turn around and go home, but saw Abernathy follow him and then ram his car twice on the rear bumper, causing him to crash.

Deputies went to the Abernathy home and saw scuff marks on the suspect’s truck which he said came from running into a barbed wire fence on his property.

Carie Abernathy, however, said she witnessed her ex-husband driving after Nottingham.

Deputies arrested him and transported him to the White County Detention Center where bond was set at $6,500.

CLEVELAND, Ga.  — On May 6, 2019 at around 12:15 a.m. deputies from the White County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 402 Stanley Nix Rd. in reference to a burglary in progress.

The homeowner, who was out of town, was alerted to the burglary by their surveillance camera system. The homeowner believed that the intruder was armed with a rifle. Upon arrival at the residence, deputies found a window that had been forced open.

White County Sheriff’s Office deputies identified the intruder from the surveillance camera photos as Michael Anthony Turner (age 53) of Cleveland. The White County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team responded to the house and searched the residence and several outbuildings, but was unable to locate Turner.

Michael Anthony Turner is wanted for burglary. Anyone who knows Turner’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the White County Sheriff’s Office at 706-865-6370.

Steven Diller

CLEVELAND, Ga. — Deputies with the White County Sheriff’s Office arrested a father and son from Clarkesville last week and charged them with the felony burglary of a RV parked at Grove Campground at 338 Mountain Creek Circle.

Steve Diller, 47, and Joshua Diller, 22, are accused of stealing a diamond bracelet and diamond earrings with a total estimated value of $2,850.

According to the arrest report, Pamela Burton said the RV remains at the campground year round and she and her husband visit occasionally. According to Ms. Burton, she asked the campground owner to have a hot water heater replaced and he assigned his employees — Steve and Joshua Diller to do the job.

Ms. Burton a camera in the RV spotted the Dillers going inside the RV and rifling through her belongings. She notified the owner and they were fired. Later, when she visited the RV, she discovered her jewelry missing.

They Dillers were arrested on April 12 and booked into the White County Detention Center.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – A 25-year-old Sautee Nacoochee woman was arrested Saturday and charged with battery for striking her husband in the face while he was driving on Hwy. 129.

Following a BOLO call, deputies with the White County Sheriff’s Office stopped the vehicle and questioned the driver Joshua Turner and his wife Morgan Turner separately. Both said they had had a verbal argument.

According to the incident report, deputies noticed that Joshua Turner had a red mark on the right side of his face. He said his wife did not strike him, but threw a glass of iced tea in his face.

Morgan Turner also said she did not strike her husband and denied throwing a drink in his face.

However, Nancy Harper Bell, who had called in the 9-1-1 report and followed the truck the Turner’s were in, said she saw Mrs. Turner repeatedly hitting Mr. Turner, causing him to swerve the truck and that she had kept hitting him until they turned onto Albert Reid Road.

Deputies also spoke to Bell’s son Jesse Jake Harper, who was driving the truck Mrs. Bell was riding in, and concurred with what Mrs. Bell said.

Deputies then obtained witness statements and arrested Morgan Turner and transported her to the White County Detention Center.
