Cleveland Funeral Home announces that Doris Lee Thomason, age 80 of Cleveland, Georgia passed away on January 15, 2019.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019 in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Home at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jason Hester and Rev. Brandon Hester officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery of Emmanuel Gospel Church on Highway 115 West. The family will be accepting friends on Thursday, January 17, 2019 between the hours of 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Emmanuel Gospel Church.

Mr. Julian E. Cantrell, age 75, of Sautee-Nacoochee, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019.

Mr. Cantrell was born in Helen to the late Esco Gordon and Virginia Caudell Cantrell.  He was preceded in death by wife, Joyce Ann Cantrell; son, Steven Cantrell; brothers, Roger Cantrell and Richard Cantrell; and sister, Janice Cantrell Nelms.  Mr. Cantrell was a carpenter and a member of Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife, Marraine Cantrell; daughter and son-in-law, Marty and Pete Stonecypher; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Holley Cantrell; sons, Jeff Cantrell, Randy Cantrell, and Joey Chastain; grandchildren, Wil Stonecypher, Seth Stonecypher, Blake Cantrell, Evan Cantrell, and Cree Cantrell; brother, Bobby Cantrell; brother and sister-in-law, Benjamin and Beth Cantrell and Mitchell and Rita Cantrell; sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Tim Fortner, Judy and George Fortner, and Teleta and Danny Pritchett; and sister, Rosella Watson.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 P.M. Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Danny O’Kelley will officiate.  Interment will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ed Cook: Obituary

March 24, 1937 – January 02, 2019

Mr. Cook was born on March, 24, 1934, in Memphis, Texas, to the late Robert and Edna Cook. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a member of Cleveland First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Truth Seekers Sunday School class. Mr. Cook worked for Lockeed Martin and was a former warehouse manager and driver for Pepsi Cola. Ed loved working at the R-Ranch in Dahlonega and loved to travel to Amelia Island where he enjoyed fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved the North Georgia Mountains. After retirement, Ed worked for the Lumpkin County Transit.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Gayle Cook, Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Erin Cook, Dahlonega; daughter, Rebecca Cook, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Justin Cook, Hunter Cook, and Hayden Cook.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. – 12 noon Saturday prior to the funeral service.

Memorial services are scheduled for 12 noon, Saturday, January 5, 2018 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Bucky Erwin and the Rev. Dennis Turner will officiate.

Miss Kathy Ann Hunt, age 62, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019.

Miss Hunt was born in Lumpkin County to the late Jim and Carrie Gilleland Hunt.  She was preceded in death by parents, and sister and brother-in-law, Shelby and Donald Fields; and sister-in-law, Edith Hunt.  N

Survivors include sisters and brothers-in-law, Lounette and Clinton Hulsey, and  Jewell and Teddy Ravan, all of Clermont; brothers and sister-in-law, James and Marlene Hunt, and Brad and Vicky Hunt, all of Cleveland; and brother, Donald Hunt, Cleveland; and many other relatives.

Don “Stoney” Stonecypher

August 14, 1931 – January 01, 2019

Mr. Don ‘Stoney’ Stonecypher, age 87, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019.

Mr. Stonecypher was born in Winder, Georgia to the late Spurgeon and Altha Rutledge Stonecypher.  He served in the United States Air Force, deployed to Korea during the Korean War.  Mr. Stonecypher survived a 1952 plane crash while in the Air Force.  He was a working Cowboy, working at numerous farms across White County taking care of livestock and land.  Mr. Stonecypher also worked at the White County Recreation Department.

Mr. Stonecypher is preceded in death by wife, Patricia Jane Stonecypher; daughter-in-law, Eddie Stonecypher; and brother, Jerry Stonecypher.

Survivors include his daughter, Brenda Stonecypher, Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Gregg Dickerson, Peachtree City; son, Patrick Stonecypher, Cleveland; and sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Lucy Stonecypher, St. Louis, Missouri and Pete and Marty Stonecypher, Cleveland; grandchildren, Sarah Newton Wright, Daniel Paul Stonecypher, Meechie Alice Dickerson, Mattie Allison Dickerson, Wil Perkins Stonecypher, and Seth Henry Stonecypher; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 P.M. Friday, January 4, 2019 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Anderson and Rev. Wayne Wilkes will officiate. Interment will follow in Yonah View Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Thursday, January 3, 2019, and again Friday from 12 Noon -2 P.M. at the funeral home.

Anthony Michael Oliver, age 64 of Clermont, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018. Mr. Oliver was born in Hall County to the late Shelton and Birmalee Oliver. He worked as a farmer and was a truck driver for 30 years. Mr. Oliver was a member of Skitts Mountain Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his father and mother in-law Denver “Cotton” and Betty Loggins, his brother Perry Oliver, and his sister Geraldine Oliver.

Mr. Oliver is survived by his wife Donna Elaine Oliver of Clermont; his daughter and son in-law Amy and Joe Andrews of Clermont, his son Michael Oliver of Gainesville as well as his grandsons Jeremy Walker, Joseph Andrews, and granddaughter in-law Shelby Dyer. He is also survived by his brothers Eugene “Moley” Oliver, Donald Oliver, Tyrus Oliver, and Leon Oliver as well as sisters Reba Joe Oliver, Christine Clark, and Sharon Oliver all of Clermont.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Barrett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kyle Savage officiating. Interment will follow at The Oliver Cemetery adjoining Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M Monday, December 31 at Barrett Funeral Home.

James Franklin Evers, age 70, of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018 at his residence.

Mr. Evers was born in Ocilla, Georgia to the late Bobby James Evers.  He was preceded in death by wife, Lois Ann Evers, and daughter, Sabrina Wade-Evers and son, Charlie Evers and his granddaughter Arabella Ryanne.  Mr. Evers was a retired homebuilder and a Proud Vietnam Army Veteran.

Survivors include daughters, Michelle Evers, Jaime Fongheiser, Jacqui Wildes, of Cleveland; son-in-laws Mike Fongheiser and Mikey Wildes and brother, Wendell Stephens, Walhalla, South Carolina; sister, Willi-Diane Castagnetto, California; his grandchildren William, Michael, Liberty, Peanut, Lily, Ashley, Zoe, Steven Ray, Jonathon and many more. And one great granddaughter Kelsi Jean.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 pm Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Yonah View Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 12 Noon-1:45 pm Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the funeral home prior to leaving for the cemetery.

Betty Jean Cantrell, age 71 of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Cantrell was born May 25, 1947 in White County to the late Isaac Richardson and Dorothy Putman Richardson. Betty attended Brenau University, Truett McConnell College and Fort Valley State University. She was a former teacher for Middle Park Headstart in Gainesville, Ga and was a substitute teacher for the White County School System. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Mrs. Cantrell was one of the few Civil Rights Activists in North Georgia. She was an avid writer and poet and was retired from NOK located in Cleveland, GA.

Survivors include her sons, Shaka (Miciah) Cantrell, Cleveland, GA, Reggie (Zina) Cantrell, Cleveland, GA, Ron (Shaye) Cantrell, Cleveland, GA, LaShuan Cantrell, Cleveland, GA, Jamal Cantrell, Toccoa, GA; daughters, Ashanti Cantrell, Cleveland, GA, Nikki Cantrell, Cleveland, GA; 17 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 1 aunt, 1 uncle and a host of cousins and friends.

A Going Home Celebration will be held 2:00P.M Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Travis Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Yonah Cemetery.

Hope Merryn Dover, age 2, of Cleveland, went to be with Jesus Saturday, December 8, 2018.

Hope was born August 26, 2016 in Gainesville.  As a precious daughter, granddaughter, cousin, niece, and miracle from God, Hope touched a multitude of lives in her two years of life. The love that she gave and received was immeasurable and will live on forever in all the hearts and lives she touched.

Hope was preceded in victory by great-grandparents, Melba Castleberry, James and Betty Camp, Imogene Dover, Joe B. Dover, Marian C. Smith, and Bonnie Smith.

She is survived by Loving Parents, Matt and Carissa Dover, Cleveland; grandparents, Matt and Marcia Camp, Cleveland and Joe and Sharon Dover, Gainesville; great-grandfather, Marcus Castleberry, Alpharetta; aunt and uncle, Matthew and Sidney Camp; Gainesville; cousin, Titan Camp, Gainesville; and  many other close family members and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held 2 PM Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Riverpoint Community Church in Demorest.  The Rev. Kevin Mangum and Dr. Joe Vernon will officiate. Interment will follow in Yonah View Memorial Gardens.

Flowers will be acknowledged, however, the family asks for donations to be made to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital: 1001 Johnson Ferry Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30342.
