Joseph Laurens Glover, age 80, of Sautee, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by people who loved him, on Monday, November 25, 2019.

Mr. Glover was born on November 8, 1939, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Mary and Joseph Glover. He served in the United States Marine Corp after which he received a Mechanical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech. He was in charge of Product Design and Development for Great Dane Trailers until his retirement. Joseph was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Emily Glover; son, Jason Glover; 3 grandchildren; and 4 sisters.

Private services will be held at a later date.

The family respectfully ask that in lieu of flowers a donation to St. Paul’s Building Fund be considered – 1243 Hulsey Rd. Cleveland, GA 30528.

Homer J.D. Kinsey: Obituary

Homer J.D. Kinsey, age 88 of Cleveland, passed away Friday, December 13, 2019.

Mr. Kinsey was born October 26, 1931 in Cleveland to the late Lester and Elzoria McAllister Kinsey. Homer was a lifelong resident of White County where he worked as a mechanic and cattle farmer. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Chosewood and brother, David Kinsey.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Annie Bulgin Kinsey, Cleveland; son and fiancé, James Larry Kinsey and Dale Adams; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Kinsey Gamerl and Dave Gamerl; son and fiancé, Gary Douglas Kinsey and Dana Ellis, all of Cleveland; grandson, David Lee Kinsey; sister Vera Mae Shelnut, Cornelia; sister and brother-in-law, Willie Mae and Thomas Hooper, Demorest; brothers and sisters-in-law, Waymon and Kathy Kinsey; Roy Lee Kinsey and Louise Kinsey, Gainesville; brother-in-law, Grady Chosewood, Turnerville; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Monday, December 16, 2019 at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Taylor and the Rev. Kenneth Anderson will officiate. Interment will follow at Gateway Memory Park.

The family will receive friends from 3-7 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Elmer James Hunt, age 75, of Cleveland, passed away on November 12, 2019.

Mr. Hunt was born on June 25, 1944, in White County, to the late Tommy and Ruby Nelson Hunt. He was a heavy equipment operator for 46 years and retired from Allied Paving. He was also a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Mae Hunt; brothers, Claude Hunt and Ronnie Hunt.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Patricia Hunt, Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Bobbie Hunt, Cleveland; granddaughter, Morgan Hunt; brothers, Ray Hunt, Bobby Hunt (Joan), and Alex Hunt.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Northeast Georgia.

Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00 Noon Friday, November 16, 2019, at the chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Nathan Nix and the Rev. Tommy Hunt will officiate. Interment will follow at Zion Interdenominational Church Cemetery.

Brayden Philyaw: Obituary

Brayden Philyaw, age 8, of Cleveland, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 10, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Brayden was born on May 28, 2011 to Zach and Miranda Allison Philyaw. He was a third grade student at Mossy Creek Elementary School and attended Shoal Creek Baptist Church and The Cleveland Worship Center.

Our sweet Bray was full of life, never met a stranger, and had a hilarious sense of humor.  He loved baseball, basketball and football.  He adored his family, and wanted to be like his older brother Bryson, and loved God. He loved to read his Bible every night and his last log was in Acts about miracles. He loved hunting and fishing, being outside with his dad, and couldn’t get enough of the beach and camping.  He grew up riding 4-wheelers and being a wild but adorable boy.  He was the kindest kid, who was a friend to absolutely everyone.

He is preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Terry Philyaw, and aunt Cindi Philyaw.

Survivors include parents, Zach and Miranda Philyaw, Cleveland; brother and hero, Bryson Philyaw, Cleveland; maternal grandparents, Charles and Rebekah Allison (Nana and Pops), Cleveland; paternal grandparents, Holly and Rich Brannon (Honey and Boppa), Gainesville; uncle, Wesley Allison, Cleveland; uncle and aunt, Chad and Yvette Philyaw, Clermont; and numerous great aunts, great uncles, cousins, and other family members.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 P.M. Saturday, November 16, 2019 at The Bridge Church. The Rev. Marc Turner, Rev. Joe Vernon, and Rev. Marty Garrett will officiate. Interment will be at Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Lydia Jeanette Fuller White: Obituary

Mrs. Lydia Jeanette Fuller White, age 73, of Cleveland, passed away Monday, November 11, 2019.

Mrs. White was born to the late Rev. John Fuller and Jeanette Fuller Light. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Sarah Talley. Mrs. White was a graduate of White County High School and was a retired school teacher with the White County School System, spending her career teaching at Old Nacoochee School, White County Elementary School and Jack P. Nix Primary School. She was a member of Cleveland First Baptist Church and was an avid tennis player, and loved walking and aerobics.

Survivors include husband of 51 years, Bill White, Cleveland; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Hal Cason, Demorest; brother-in-law, Darrell Talley, Pineview, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 A.M. Wednesday, November 13, 2019 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Turner and Rev. Hal Cason will officiate. Interment will follow in Gateway Memory Park.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 P.M. Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at the funeral home.

He was a US Army Veteran and a member of Alpharetta Masonic Lodge #235. Barney was retired from GM, Doraville, and has been farming since his retirement.
Barney is preceded in death by his parents, Joe Boyd and Lavonia, and his brother O’Neal. He is survived by his wife, Mary S. Leonard Charles Phillips, 70, of Cleveland, Georgia passed away on Saturday November 9, 2019 at his home surrounded by family and friends.

 

Leonard was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on July 8, 1949 to the late Wayne K. Phillips and Helene Bolden Phillips. He served in the Army and Air Force and completed a tour of duty in the Vietnam War and Dessert Storm.  Leonard moved to Cleveland, Georgia after retiring from a career at the Police Academy in Columbia, South Carolina. He enjoyed hiking and helping hikers he met along the trail. Leonard attended church at Jesus ‘n Jeans Worship at The Cottage Winery in Cleveland, Georgia.

 

Leonard was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Hamby Phillips of Florida.  He is survived by his children, Michele Phillips (Duanne Blackburn) of Cleveland, Denise Tannery of Florida; brother Wayne Phillips (Tina) of Oklahoma; sister Connie Phillips DeBruen of Oklahoma; grandchildren Kaleb Gouse, Kirsten Ciotti and Travis Patterson; and his beloved dog Emma.

 

A memorial service will be held on Sunday November 17, 2019 at noon at The Cottage Winery in Cleveland, Georgia.
