White County under fire weather watch

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — White County along with all of north and central Georgia is under a FIRE WEATHER WATCH for Saturday, March 26th. A fire weather watch means that there is high potential for the development of critical fire weather condition. Listen for later forecasts and possible RED FLAG WARNINGS.
White County Emergency Management discourages any outdoor burning for tomorrow, and if you chose to do so, you must follow the Outdoor Burning Guidelines listed below:
Remember SSTAR!
Space – Keep fires at least 25 feet from woodlands and forest
Space – Keep fires at least 50 feet from homes and other structures
Time – No burning before sunrise or after sunset
Attendance – Someone must be on-site until fire is extinguished
Reasonable precautions –
Keep tools and measures in place to prevent escaped fire;
Keep a continuous pressurized water source on site;
Create a man-made or natural barrier to contain fire;
Keep hand tools/fire-containing equipment on site
Weather awareness: No burning on NWS red flag warning days, Fire Danger designation of hazardous conditions – High/Extreme days, low relative humidity days, high winds, etc.
Remember the 5 responsibilities you have & must legally take when you burn hand piled debris.

Red Flag Warning in effect for north and central Georgia

ATLANTA – The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning at 3 p.m. today (April 9) for north and Central Georgia. The warning will remain in effect until Friday (April 10) at 8 p.m. * Affected Area…North and central Georgia.
- Northwest around 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
- Relative Humidity…20 to 25 percent.
- ..Low 60s to low 70s for most areas. Upper 40s to
50s for the higher elevations in the far north. - ..Very low relative humidity and strong winds will allow
fire to spread rapidly. - This warning includes the Chattahoochee and Oconee National
