PRESS RELEASE
WHITE COUNTY, Ga. –An unusual type structure for White County required the response of firefighters on Monday evening, March 15th. Firefighters from White County with mutual aid from Cleveland City and Lee Arrendale Fire Brigade responded to 184 Walnut Ridge Dr. around 8:30 p.m. This new short term rental is new concept for White County. “Treehouses” or “Pedestal” houses are common in tourist areas, but challenging when emergencies occur such as this fire.
It appears the fire started in the fireplace, and something within the system malfunctioned. The State Fire Marshall has been called to investigate. No injuries were reported and the occupants were sheltered in another rental on site. The Georgia Forestry Commission had been called due to the fire spreading from the structure into the wooded area. Firefighters quickly gained control of the woods and structure fire and remained on scene for a significant time of overhaul. The cabin had only been open for about a month for rental.
