Linda Denise Shoemake, age 56 of Demorest, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.
Ms. Shoemake was born on December 29, 1962, in Gainesville, Georgia, to Ray Shoemake and the late Nora Dockery Ellis. She was a member of Damascus Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Shane Shoemake, Carrollton; father, Ray Shoemake, Cumming; sisters and their spouses, Renee and Larry Sutton, Dahlonega, Annette and Dean White, Dahlonega, Angela and Charles Sosebee, Sautee, Rhonda and Susanne Brady-Lusk, Houston, Texas; step sister, Pamela Wilson; best friend, Jack Goss, Demorest; 4 nieces; 4 nephews; several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 P.M. Thursday, October 17, 2019. The Rev. Ronnie Dockery will officiate. Interment will follow at Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mary Ruth Sutton, age 66, of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019.
Mrs. Sutton was born on January 13, 1953 to the late Jessie Thomas Richardson and Lenora Dorsey Richardson. She was a homemaker, friend, and mother to all.
Survivors include her husband, Bud Sutton; daughters, Felicia Sutton, and Erin Sutton; sisters, Latrell Richardson, Kathleen Jarrells, Mae Davis, and Viola Morrison; brothers, Jesse Richardson (Lynette), and Jerry Richardson (Essie); and countless other sisters, sons, daughters and grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2019 at St. John’s Baptist Church. Pastor Richard Pinero and the Rev. Bryan Sutton will officiate. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery.

Martha Ann Tolbert, age 64, of Dahlonega, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019.
Mrs. Tolbert was born in Forsyth County to the late James and Nancy Bell Land Smith. She was preceded in death by parents; sister, Dot Riddle; and brothers, Herbert Smith and Lonnie Smith. Mrs. Tolbert was an employee for Walmart, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Survivors include daughters, Kimberly Day and Dottie Summerour, both of Dahlonega; brother, Melvin Smith, Cleveland; brother, Wilburn Smith, Cumming; brother, Tommy Smith, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Randall Summerour, Cleveland, Chris Armstrong, Dahlonega, Kelly Geoghegan, Dahlonega; Brandi Summerour, Dahlonega; and Blake Ridings, Dahlonega; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Summerour, Rylee Summerour, Landon Summerour, Bentlee Geoghegan, and Vincent Abbatecola.

Bethenia Mae Bacon: Obituary

We thank God for the life of Bethenia Mae Bacon, born Bethenia Mae Chastain.
Bethenia (“Bea” to her friends) was born May 31, 1931 in Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia to William Barnett and Dora Mae Chastain. She was the first child of ten including Emily, James, Sarah, Howard, Arthur, Brenda and survived by Coleman, Jewel and Joan. This family was rich in spirit and love and, in continuance of this blessing, Bethenia made family paramount in her life and was committed to loving and charitable works.
She met the love of her life Harry Leo Bacon (deceased) while living in Augusta, GA. As the story is told, she worked in a five and dime and Harry kept shopping in an effort to win her attention. He always said, “I met my million-dollar baby in a five and dime” … and indeed he did. They married after he returned from a military tour during the Korean War. They traveled the world for over 23 years as they served in the Army.
She is survived by her 3 children Beverly, Harriet and Douglas. She also was the loving grandmother of nine “grand babies” Kristina, Douglas, Robert, Adam, Nathaniel, Phillip, Samantha, Taylor and Dylan. The latest of her lineage are her three great grandchildren Abigail, David and Harper.
She was a faithful and true daughter, sister, wife, parent, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor, friend and business woman. While thriving in the role of supportive military wife and stay-at-home mother, she was able to build a business in Sautee supporting family and community. After military retirement, she excelled in a career as a real estate agent, receiving the most prestigious awards for superior achievement. As she began her second retirement, she took her love of dance to a new level and became an accomplished and ballroom dancer.
Anyone who met her was drawn to Bethania’s beautiful smile and sweet personality. She was smart, assertive, thrifty, but her heart and generosity dominated her personality. A Christian servant with heart- felt generosity is the example she passed on to all who knew her. Well-grounded in good morals, values and manners she was someone everyone loved and admired.
Bethenia Mae Bacon, our Matriarch, will be greatly missed on earth, but eagerly welcomed in heaven.

Michael Laughlin Newton: Obituary

Michael Laughlin Newton, 57, owner of Newton Plumbing, passed on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at his home in Sautee. He was born in Ridley Park, PA to Robert F. Newton, Jr. and MaryAnn Laughlin Newton. He attended Milton Hershey School in Hershey, PA, where he learned the true value of hard work. An Army veteran that served in the 82nd Airborne, Mike had a true love for his country.
A master plumber for over 40 years, he created his own business, Newton Plumbing, Inc., with the help of his beloved wife, Melissa, in Orlando, Florida in 1995. The Newton family relocated to White County, GA in 1998 and established a new plumbing business, serving the community until he passed.
Upon marrying Melissa, a single mother with four boys, he chose to adopt them as his own. He regularly attended and supported practices, events, and games for his children, always appreciating the little things in life like family time. Upon the death of his son, Michael, in 2008, Mike and Melissa chose to raise their grandson, Jacob Newton, as their own. As Mike aged, he realized “nothing is more important than family.” He also loved his role as “Papa” to his grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to spoil them.
Mike and Melissa recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a much anticipated trip to Maine. He was a fierce protectorate of his wife and family, having a true love for both.
Additionally, he had a special affinity for helping others, always recognizing the importance of giving back without the need for recognition. His selfless attitude and pride within his business made him a well-respected member of the White County community.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Newton, mother MaryAnn Laughlin Dyson of Hamburg, PA, brothers Robert F. Newton, III of Richboro, PA and James Newton of Linwood, PA, sister Ellen Newton of Hamburg, PA, children Juanita Newton-Gonzalez of Ocala, FL, Christopher Newton (Jenni) of Apopka, FL, Reva Newton of Dallas, TX, Jeffrey Newton (Paige) of Cleveland, GA, Steven Newton, Esq. of Peachtree City, GA, Andrew Newton (Caroline) of Greenville, SC, and Jacob Newton of Sautee, GA. His legacy is further remembered by his grandchildren, Eduardo Gonzalez, III, Dalilah Morgan, Amias Morgan, Benjamin Newton, Emily Newton, Charlotte Newton, Jason Hart, Richard Libby, Patrick Libby, Paul Libby, Gabriella Newton, Johnathon Newton, Payton Newton, Jacob Newton, Serenity Newton, and granddaughter-to-be, Bridges Newton.
Mike is predeceased by his father, Robert F. Newton, Jr. and son, Michael Newton, Jr.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection located at 1755 Duncan Bridge Road, Sautee, GA. Father Scott Kidd will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church prior to the service. A family reception will follow immediately after the service in the fellowship hall.

Gertrude “Trudi” Kimsey, age 78, of Sautee Nacoochee, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019.
Mrs. Kimsey was born in White Plains, NY the daughter of the late Benny and Mildred Donato Checchia. Trudi was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. She was the office manager at Cheston Kimsey Jr. DDS and loved her family dearly. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Marie McMorrough.
Survivors include her husband, Cheston Berrong Kimsey Jr., Sautee; sons and daughters-in-law, Berrong and Lori Kimsey, Sautee; Greg and Gail Kimsey, Clarkesville; Keith and Adriana Kimsey, Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Tonya and Jason Fowler; Chris and Cydia Kimsey, Candler Kimsey, Karson Kimsey, Cameron Kimsey, Ashley Kimsey, Alec Kimsey, Amber Kimsey; great granddaughter, Phoebe Fowler; niece, Vicki McMorrough.

Teddy Randolph Riley age 74 of Clarkesville, Georgia passed away peacefully after a sudden illness on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 8:25 p.m. at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Services will be held at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Home on Highway 129 South in Cleveland, Georgia. Pastor and Mrs. Alfred Gibson from La Blanc, Louisiana will be officiating. ( Mrs. Gibson is Ted Riley’s Niece ).
Ted was born to Hazel Jeanette Riley and Louis Cleo Riley on September 6, 1944 in Winona, Mississippi. Ted is survived by his wife Nancye of 54 years. Siblings; Pat (Sandy) Riley of Hattiesburg, MS. and Jeanette Riley Burns of Chicago, IL. Children; Lisa (Michael) Mills, David Riley, and Ted Riley II. Grandchildren; Kayla Mills Lisnock, Joe Lisnock, Caroline Mills, Brooke Mills, Riley Mills, Nicole Riley. He is also survived by one Great Grandchild, Logan Lisnock, age 3.
Ted and Nancye are both graduates of Delta State University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science Degree the year that it became a University. Ted started a career with JC Penney immediately after college and stayed with JC Penney for 22 years, 1966-1988. Later, he and his wife Nancye had a home insurance business.
For 13 years, 2006-2019 (ages 62 and 64) Mr and Mrs Riley were members of Bethlehem Baptist in Clarkesville, however they chased after Grandchildren to and from many other schools and churches while they were living here. After moving to Clarkesville, the Riley’s felt like they had found Heaven on Earth. Teds Dream was always to live on a golf course. They were able to build a home with no steps on the first level ( age and bones ) and make other changes to the house plan that they loved on a private knoll protected by mountains and trees in the Orchard Community of Clarkesville.
Mr and Mrs Riley began their journey through life living with her parents in Cleveland, Mississippi, and are now saying “goodbye for now” in Cleveland, Georgia.

Rev. Timothy Britt Sangster, age 59, of Cleveland, passed away Monday, February 18, 2019.
Rev. Sangster was born in Lakeland, Georgia to the late Harold Lamar and Evelyn Fendley Sangster.
Rev. Sangster spent over thirty years in the ministry, spending time in Pleasureville, Kentucky, Royston, GA, Washington GA, Clarkesville, GA, with the Georgia Baptist Convention, and in Savannah, GA, and Cleveland, GA. He was the youth minister at Cleveland First Baptist Church, a position which he held for ten years. Rev. Sangster recently worked at Crete Carrier and Mansfield Oil.
Survivors include wife, Sherri Sangster, Cleveland; sons and daughters-in-law, Britt and Charissa Sangster, and Linton and Kim Sangster; daughter, Laura Sangster; grandchildren, Jacob Sangster, Finley Sangster, Kegan Sangster; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jonathan and Caroline Sangster and Nathan and Melissa Sangster.
A Memorial service will take place 2 P.M. Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Cleveland First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dennis Turner and the Rev. John Brown will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the funeral home.

Cleveland Funeral Home announces that Mrs. Gloria Hewett Thompson age 71, of Cleveland, Georgia passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 14, 2019. Gloria was born on February 17, 1947 in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina to James Edwin Hewett and Helen Chadwick Hewett. She was a member of Riverpoint Community Church in Habersham County.
Gloria was employed by the late Jim Wilkins in 1978 at Orbit MFG in the accounting Department. After Orbit MFG was sold, she was employed by Mr. Wilkins once he established Wilco with his sons. She remained employed full time for years, later becoming a part time secretary and accounts manager. She remained in this position until this past fall as her health continued to decline. The Thompson family wishes to acknowledge and sincerely thank the Wilkins family for the love and kindness she received from the entire family over the last 40 years.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Brien Thompson with whom she would have celebrated 53 years of marriage on March 5th of this year; Mother, Helen Chadwick Hewett of Habersham County; Daughter, Deborah A. Moss of Cleveland; Son and Daughter in Law Alan and Khrys Thompson of Gainesville. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Riverpoint Community Church, located on Ansley Rd. in Demorest, Ga. on February 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the same location.

Bryan Keith Bryson, age 56 of Gainesville, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019.
Keith was born on January 7, 1963, in Hiawassee, Georgia to Bryan and Sabra Palmer Bryson. He graduated from White County High School in 1981 and lived most of his adult life in White County. After graduating high school, Keith attended Atlanta Art Institute and later attended North Georgia Technical College where he obtained a Cosmetology degree. Keith was a stylist at II Shae in Gainesville. He loved music and was an active member of Cleveland United Methodist Church Choir as well as Voices of North Georgia. Keith will be remembered as a humble man who had an incredible sense of humor and a unique outlook on life.
Survivors include his parents, Bryan and Sabra Bryson, Cleveland; brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Paige Bryson, Cleveland; nieces, Ashley Bryson, Madeline Bryson, Deena Deaton, and Stephanie Deaton; aunts, Connie Palmer Schapansky Smith and Sharon Palmer Snell.

Buford Lester Baker, age 89, of Cleveland, passed away Friday, February 1, 2019.
Mr. Baker was born on May 12, 1929 to the late Lester and Myrtle Edwards Baker. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Cantrell Baker; granddaughter, Betty London Fortner; brothers, Frank Baker, James Baker, and Corbett Baker; sisters, Ruth Hopkins, Lula Belle Moss, and Ellen Gunnells; and sister in law, Lureta Loftis.
Born and raised in White County, Buford was a graduate of Nacoochee High School. He retired from Ames Textile in Cleveland, was the owner of Baker Vending Service, and operated a poultry farm.
He was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 71 years and taught the Adult Sunday School class for almost fifty consecutive years. Buford loved the Lord, his family and his church and spent his life in service to all three.
Two of his most favorite passions were spending time in God’s Word and spending time in his vegetable garden. He enriched the lives of his family by sharing from each of them. His favorite times of the year were the holidays when the entire family gathered together under his roof for fellowship. Buford worked hard throughout his life but the true fruit of his labor was family.
Survivors include wife, Roberta Stockton Baker; daughter and son-in-law, Eloise Baker and Ronnie London; sons and daughters-in-law, Garrison and Susan Baker, and Rev. William and Sharron Baker; grandchildren, Will Baker, Melody Chambers, Amanda Hall, Joe Baker, Cody Baker, and William London; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Holloman, Allison Fortner, Rebecca Manley, Anna Baker, Megan Baker, Chloe Baker, Paul Chambers, Joshua Chambers, Isaac Hall, Claire Hall, Luke Baker, Jack Baker, Haley Baker, Hudson Baker, Layli Kate Baker, and Lucy Baker; and great-great grandson, Jackson Holloman; sister, Fannie Mae Baker; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Baker, Marybelle Benfield, Rachel Cantrell, Dorothy Underwood, Wynona Nelson, and Ruth Gibson.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 P.M. Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Crescent Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Phillip Robinson, Rev. Lewis Fortner, and Rev. Chris Blocker will officiate. Interment will follow in Gateway Memory Park.
