Winford (Loy) York stepped into eternity on Thursday, November 15 at 4:53 a.m.

He was born in White County Georgia to Dilmas and Maggie Chastain York on October 9, 1930.  His late wife was Betty Sue Taylor York of Hiawassee, Georgia.

Mr. York has four children, Joyce Thaxton, Kathy Davila, Rick York and Randy York.  He has five grandchildren, Danielle Thaxton, Brandon York, Nicholas York, the late Michael Grant Davila, Dustin York; and two great grandchildren, Braeden and Allie York. He also has two sons-in-law, Dan Thaxton and Michael Davila.

A Graveside service will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 12:30 PM at Gateway Memory Park.

The family will receive guests for viewing at 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Barrett Funeral Home in Cleveland, Georgia.

Dustin Mark Dyer, age 29 of Cleveland, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018.

Mr. Dyer was born on January 2, 1989, in Gainesville, Georgia, to Bobby Ray Dyer, Jr. and Leah Vandiver Barrett. Dustin worked in maintenance at Mountain Lakes and was member of Old Nacoochee Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Dyer; grandfathers, Jerry Vandiver and Bobby Dyer, Sr.; great grandmother, Lela Hopper.

Survivors include his fiancé, Branka Metz, Cleveland; daughter, Evelyn Lela Dyer, Cleveland; mother, Leah Vandiver Barrett, Cleveland; father, Bobby Ray Dyer, Jr.; grandmothers, Wanda Vandiver, Cleveland, and Paulette Dyer, Carnesville; sisters, Kaley Barrett and Ashley Dyer, both of Cleveland; brother, Matthew Dyer, Cleveland; nephew, Aidyn Barrett, Cleveland; aunt, Shalisha Dyer, Carnesville; other aunts and uncles also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Old Nacoochee Baptist Church. The Rev. Doug Merck and the Rev. Joel Shadburn will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Cleveland Funeral Home announces that Kathy Davis, age 49 of Cleveland, Georgia passed away on June 1, 2019. It was her wishes to be cremated. No services are planned at this time.

Gregory Allen “SKIP” Cathey

January 17, 1949 – May 17, 2019

Gregory Allen, “SKIP”, Cathey, 70, passed away Friday, May 17, 2019 following a brave battle against pancreatic cancer.

Skip was born January 22, 1949, in Cleveland, and he was a lifelong White County resident. Skip was a 1966 graduate of White County High School, and attended Truett McConnell College. He was a member of Center Baptist Church in Robertstown, Georgia.

Skip was an entrepreneur, and was self-employed. With an over 50 year career, primarily in food service, he fed thousands of locals and visitors. Some of his former restaurants include Granny’s Cupboard, Helen, and Creekside Deli, and The Corner Grill in Cleveland. Aside from his good homemade food, and clean restaurants, he was well known as a classic car enthusiast, and a man who never met a stranger. He restored and sold many cars over the years, and made friends with many who shared his hobby.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Doris Ruth Cornell Cathey. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Judy Dean Cathey, son, Jeremy (Kelly) Cathey, and two grandchildren, Grayson and Paisley Cathey, all of Cleveland. He is also survived by two brothers, Skeet Cathey (Beth), Jefferson, and Jeff Cathey (Zulene), Sautee.

The family extends love and thanks to the many friends and former employees who have reached out to them during this time. Your support and prayers have been felt by all of us.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Monday, May 20, 2019 at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Heffner and Rev. Michael Wilkes will officiate. Interment will follow in Gateway Memory Park with Mr. Baylon Mitchell officiating.

Hugh Thomas Blackburn

January 03, 1941 – May 14, 2019

Mr. Hugh Thomas Blackburn, age 78, of Sautee-Nacoochee, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019.

Mr. Blackburn was born in White County to the late Thomas Hester and Bonnie Brown Blackburn. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Mack “Bud” and Pat Blackburn, and sister, Euzella Blackburn. Mr. Blackburn served in the US Air Force and will receive military honors. He was a member of the Shriners, was a Mason, and served on the White County Recreation Board. Mr. Blackburn worked at the Cleveland Post Office and was the owner and operator of Blackburn Construction. He was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife, Janie Blackburn, Sautee-Nacoochee; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Jonathan Thompson, Gainesville and Victoria and Denver Truelove, Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Tina Blackburn, Cleveland; grandchildren, Justin Thompson, Morgan Blackburn and fiance AJ Vandiver, Josie Thompson, Dallas Truelove, Cheyenne Truelove, and Branson Truelove; and many other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 12 Noon Thursday, May 16, 2019 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Danny Jarrard, Rev. Chris Blocker, and Honorable Garrison Baker will officiate. Interment will follow in Gateway Memory Park.

Eunice Ledford, age 83 of Dahlonega, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019.

Mrs. Ledford was born on January 3, 1936, in Lumpkin County, to the late Wesley and Martha Lou Etris Dockery. She worked as a self-employed chicken farmer and was a member of Town Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Eunice is preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Bobbi and J T Garrison; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Sarah Thomas Dockery; brothers, Doris Dockery and Horace Dockery; sister-in-law, Mae Garrett Dockery.

Survivors include her husband, John Ledford; sons, Jerry Ledford and Wayne Ledford; daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Arthur Fitts and Wanda and Doug Caldwell; grandchildren, April Caldwell, Ken Caldwell, Victor Ledford, Devin Ledford, Misty Ledford, and Kyle Fitts; great-grandchildren, Clay Burnett, Katherine Brock, Denae Brock, Alyssa Caldwell, Kaylee Caldwell, and Zoe Caldwell; sister and brother-in-law, Loudean and Tommy England; brothers and sisters-in-law, Doyal and Linda Dockery and Billy and Betty Dockery; brother, Dorsey Dockery; sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Dockery and Susie Ledford; many nieces and nephews also survive.
