Stephens County Closes the Door With Big 2nd Half

Both teams came out of the gate ready for a fight as the two combined for 24 points in the opening frame, however it would be the Indians of Stephens County that would prevail thanks to a big 28-point third quarter. The Warriors fought hard in the first half as the score was 21-20 at the break, but the Indians could not be stopped in the second half and would go on to win 56-26. White County now falls to 2-2 as they wrap their non-region schedule. They have a +28-point differential despite sitting at .500 on the year, which is a good sign as they look to be competitive in region play this season.
Team Notes
The defense did its job in the first half for White County before sputtering and becoming nonexistent in the second half of the game. Same can be said for the offense as the unit came out firing on all cylinders but did nothing in the back half of this one. The Warriors would go on to finish with 298 total yards of offense and QB Tripp Nix threw two interceptions. The QB struggled in this one completing just 19 of his 41 attempts for 185 yards, a touchdown, and two INTs. He would also add another touchdown on the ground. RB Ryan Fowler had some success in this one as the senior finished with 103 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown. Junior WR John Phillips was the recipient of Nix’s lone passing touchdown while Gaines Clark led the team with 50 receiving yards on five receptions. Cade and Bryce Dockery would lead the way for the Warriors defense as they finished with a combined 14 tackles and 3 TFLs.
As for Stephens County, QB Tripp Underwood finished 9/17 for 243 yards and three touchdowns. RB Javin Gordon got a load of carries as the junior finished with 89 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. The stud RB would also be the recipient of a big 82-yard touchdown pass from his QB and he would return a punt for six. Senior WR Jasec Smith would lead the Indians with 87 yards on four catches and a touchdown, while Brock Tankersley would haul in three passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. Stephens County finished with 10 sacks on defense, led by Sr. Dawson Childs who finished with four.
Looking Ahead
Stephens County now sits at 5-0 and will head into their Bye Week after a dominant start to their season. Meanwhile, the Warriors will look to get above .500 on the year in two weeks as they travel to Dawson County on 09/29.
Warriors Use a Big 2nd Half to Stomp the Raiders

The Warriors secured their first win of the year after a big 27-point 2nd half to run away from Habersham Central 34-6. Tripp Nix connected with WR Vondre Nelson on a big 54-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring, but outside of that big play, neither team could find their footing on offense. White County took a 7-3 lead into the half. Nix would find his stride in the third quarter as passing for two more touchdowns and RB Ryan Fowler would lead the way in the fourth quarter with two rushing touchdowns, one for 25 yards and one of 69. The Raiders would fail to cross the endzone in this one.
Team Notes
The Warriors displayed their balanced offense on Friday night as they finished with 198 yards in the ground game and 207 yards in the air. Nix had himself a night as he lit up the Raiders secondary. He finished 9/16 for 207 yards and three touchdowns. Fowler led the ground game for the Warriors finishing with 160 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries, averaging 10.7 YPC. Senior WR Cam Wilson finished with 103 receiving yards and a touchdown. Nelson would finish with 68 yards and a touchdown, while Isaiah Whitlow also caught a touchdown pass from Nix. Junior John Scott led the defense in tackles as he finished with 16, while Alex Johnson, Bryce Dockery, and Noah Williams also recorded double digit tackles. Scott also led the defense with two sacks.
As for Habersham Central, not a lot went right for them on either side of the ball. The Raiders recorded four sacks on Friday night and senior SS Carter Barnett led the team with 12 tackles. Habersham Central did not have offensive stats posted on Hudl or Maxpreps at the time of this posting.
Looking Ahead
White County is headed to Gainesville to take on the 0-1 Chestatee War Eagles. As for Habersham Central, they will be headed to Lawrenceville to face the 2-0 Central Gwinnett Black Knights.
