Wesleyan Escapes with a Win

Wesleyan goes to White County and leaves with a big region win as they knock off the Warriors 22-17. White County has now lost back-to-back home region games putting them in desperation mode going forward. Wesleyan held the Warriors to just 7 points in the second half as the Wolves were able to win in back-to-back week for the first time this season. White County actually outgained the Wolves by 54 yards, but their three turnovers and poor second half performance kept them from mounting a comeback. White County now falls to 0-2 in region play and 2-4 overall. As for Wesleyan they move to 3-4 (2-1) on the season.

Team Notes

Wesleyan QB Ben Brown had a decent showing throwing for 286 yards and 2 TDs, but he did throw 2 INTs. The defense did a good job in the second half as they held off a White County comeback as well as forcing 3 turnovers. Neither Maxpreps nor Hudl had individual stats posted for the Wesleyan Wolves.

As for White County, they hang their heads low once again after two disappointing region games. QB Tripp Nix struggled with the turnovers again, throwing 2 interceptions and fumbling the ball on Friday night. He was only 13/26 for 121 yards though he was able to connect with Vondre Nelson for a 18-yard touchdown as well as run for 90 yards on 12 attempts. Ryan Fowler had a huge game for the Warriors as he ran for 142 yards and a touchdown on 25 carriers, leading the offense. WR Kane Lowery caught the ball 5 times for 62 yards yards leading the team in receiving. On defense, Jacob Holbrook led the team in tackles with 17 as well as adding 2 TFL and Noah Williams totaled 10 tackles and led the defense with 3 TFL. Kane Lowery also made his presence felt on defense as he brought in 2 interceptions.

Look Ahead

Wesleyan will host the Dawson Tigers who sit atop the region at 3-0 and are 5-2 overall this season and White County will now turn their attention to West Hall as they travel to Oakwood to take on the 1-5 (0-2) Spartans who are coming off their Bye Week.
