Board Reviews Turf Plan

Board of Education, Community, Indian's Corner

WHITE COUNTY, Ga.- Assistant Superintendent Scott Justus and Rod Nix of Charles Black construction gave the Board of Education a preview of what the new turf football field will look like when in place.

Superintendent Dr. Laurie Burkett also gave the board a preview of the board meeting dates for 2022 and a list of dispositions all of which will be voted on in the regular meeting on Thursday, Dec. 16 at 6:00 p.m.

The field is set to be two different shades of green to give the appearance of the lines that are traditionally cut into the field. This is the same way West Hall, Buford, and Chestatee have their turf fields set up.

The soccer lines are on there already outlined in grey. The soccer circle will be around the WC in the middle which is why the symbol is a bit offset from the 50-yard line.

The extra dirt that will be removed from the field will be taken across the road to fill in an existing hole and create an area for disc and shock putt. The construction company is set to begin work on Feb. 20 and has built-in two extra weeks into the schedule in the advent of weather issues. The project is on track to be completed before Graduation in May. For more information on this project visit https://white.fetchyournews.com/2021/11/02/board-approves-new-turf-for-football-field/.

“I appreciate what Rod and Charles Black Construction does for us,” Justus stated.

Burkett gave the board the schedule for next year’s meetings. The schedule looks the same however due to breaks there have been a few meetings that were moved up a week. If approved these will be the dates for the meetings unless they are canceled beforehand. The dates will look similar to the ones of this year and view those visits https://www.white.k12.ga.us/board-of-education/board-of-education-meetings/board-of-education-meeting-dates.

The tentative dates are to be approved.

The dispositions that Burkett brought before the board are primarily old Chromebooks. Those are coming from Jack P. Nix, White County High School, White County Middle School, and Tesnatee Gap Elementary School. These will be approved at the meeting Thursday.
