Taco Bell employees thwart armed robbery Wednesday

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Cleveland Police have identified the man who attempted to rob the Taco Bell on Parkway Plaza shortly before midnight Wednesday as 27-year-old James Dennis McCormick of Lawrenceville.

Chief John Foster said the man entered the fast food chain just before midnight and brandished a  45-caliber handgun. But employees overpowered the man and held him until police arrived and took the man into custody.

McCormick received some minor injuries in the encounter and White County Emergency Services arrived and cleared him medically. He was then transported to the White County Detention Center. He has been charged with armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of or attempted commission of certain crimes.
