CLEVELAND, Ga. — The final phase of the Appalachian Parkway was awarded to CMES, Inc. in June 2019. This project represents an $11.1 Million construction investment.

In order to streamline portions of the utility relocation, the Georgia Department of Transportation has granted utility aid to the City of Cleveland and the relocation of their facilities is part of the construction contract with CMES.

As part of the utility aid, Georgia DOT will be funding approximately $700,000 of Cleveland’s water and sewer costs. The city of Cleveland will be funding any upgrades to their facilities.

This will allow the construction partners to install water lines in the City of Cleveland, expediting the project’s timeline.

“It’s good to see this third and final phase coming to fruition, and I applaud the collaborative effort with the Georgia DOT helping with the financial commitment for the water and sewer relocation. It’s a great help to our local governments as these costs can become a burden to the local cities and counties,” said State Senator Steve Gooch.

This final phase will complete the Appalachian Parkway by widening Hulsey Road, located off of State Route 11/US 129. This newly widened section of roadway will be named State Route 75 Connector as it provides the final section that will take traffic around Cleveland to Helen via SR 75.

At this time there is no official start for the project, upcoming lane closure and construction details will be communicated at a later date.
