First responders rescue woman whose vehicle capsized on flooded roadway

News

CLEVELAND, Ga. – On Thursday, May 31, at approximately 5:30 p.m., White County Fire Services personnel responded to a report of a Hummer-type vehicle travelling on Joe Franklin Road in northern White County that had left the heavily flooded roadway and overturned into Duke’s Creek.  It was also reported that the vehicle had a single occupant who was visiting White County from a southern Georgia county.

Two White County Fire personnel and two White County Sheriff deputies walked the rugged hillside terrain along the overflowing and fast moving waters of Duke’s Creek.  Within 15 minutes, rescue personnel located the female who had exited the vehicle and was holding onto a holly tree, the water was about 4- to 5-feet deep from the flooding.  Rescuers brought the female out of the water and walked her back to the awaiting ambulance for evaluation; the female refused transport.  The entire operation lasted about an hour and a half.
