Cleveland man charged with arson, aggravated assault

CLEVELAND, Ga. — White County authorities arrested 46-year-old Justin Wade Brown of Cleveland after he attempted to set fire to a home at 44 Ramblewood Drive in Sautee last week.

Brown is being held in the White County Detention Center where he is charged with first degree arson, aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and criminal trespass.

Responding to a 9-1-1 call, Sgt. Jared Baker saw Brown attempting to set fire to the home and spotted flames two to three feet high at the home’s foundation.  Baker ordered the suspect to the ground and handcuffed him before extinguishing the flames with a garden hose.

Christina Broder, who was locked in her bedroom when deputies arrived, told Baker that Brown had called and repeatedly threatened to kill her and set fire to the home if she didn’t come out and talk to him.

Broder said Brown, who sometimes stays at the home, was angry because she refused to bring him to buy alcohol.
Brown said he painted the house and that Broder refused to pay him.

En route to the detention center, Baker said Brown threatened to kill him and other deputies when his handcuffs were removed.
