Former Corrections Officer Indicted on Sexual Assault Charge

CLEVELAND – A White County Grand Jury returned an indictment this week against Grady Harold Speers, a former Georgia Department of Corrections officer.
Speers, 37, is accused of the sexual assault of an inmate at a correctional facility violation of oath of office.
According to the indictment, the alleged assault took place “between the 3rd day of October 2015 and 26th day of January 2016 when Speers was an employee and the victim was someone “who the accused knew, or should have known was a detainee of Lee Arrendale State Prison, contrary to the laws of said State, the good order, peace and dignity thereof.”
The victim was reportedly on a work release program and working in Helen at the time of the alleged sexual activity took place.
Speers is no longer employed by the Georgia Department of Corrections.
