CLEVELAND, Ga. — Opponents of a proposed gun range in north White County won the first battle Monday when the White County Planning Commission to recommend denial of a land use change and special use permit that would pave the way for the facility.

The ball is not in the court of the Board of Commissioners where it is expected to be discussed at the Aug. 29 work session.

Opponents have safety concerns and complained that noise from the range would impact the tranquility of the area and quality of life.

Caleb Huiet and Josh Wofford, who requested the changes, say a lot of misinformation impacted the commission’s decision and they expect a different decision when county commissioners are presented with the facts and public opinion.
