Cleveland Funeral Home announces that Teresa Lee Holt, age 56 of Cleveland, Georgia passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018. She was born in Zanesville, Ohio to the Larry Adams and Patricia Davis on March 31, 1962.

Teresa and her son Steven relocated from Florida to Georgia 32 years ago. She worked for many years at Unicoi State Park as a housekeeper and could be found on her off days “wetting a line” at any of her favorite fishing holes.

Mrs. Holt is preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Davis.  She is survived by her father, Larry Adams; Son, Steven Holt of Cleveland; Loving companion of 20 years, Wayne Ferguson; Two sisters; Four brothers; Two half brothers as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand children, great grand children, and  other extended family that she loved so dearly.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 11 am in the Chapel of Cleveland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10 am until service time on the same day.

Lois C. Hogan, age 94 of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018.

Mrs. Hogan was born February 1, 1924 in Demorest to the late Jim and Minnie Skelton Chambers. Lois was a machine operator for Talon Inc. and was a member of Union Grove Congregational Holiness Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Glen C. Hogan, brothers, Delmar Chambers, Clyde Chambers, Carl Chambers, John Henry Chambers, Emory Chambers, Junior Chambers, sisters, Hallie Warwick, Grace Darnell and Betty Caudell.

Survivors include her sons and daughters in-law; Ralph and Karen Hogan of Cleveland; Larry Glen and Carolyn Hogan of Armuchee; Rex and Dolly Hogan of Cleveland; Arlen and Lynn Hogan of Cleveland; Wayne and Marsha Hogan of Cleveland; daughter and son in-law Marilyn and David Adams of Cleveland; sister, Renoria Ping Hallford, Demorest; sister and brother-in-law, Jimmie and Jimmy Jenkins of Clarkesville; 16 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Union Grove Congregational Holiness Church. The Rev. Paul Flynn and the Rev. Patrick Ballington will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Betty Caudell, age 78 of Cleveland, went to Heaven on Friday, June 1, 2018.

Betty loved the Lord and spending time in prayer. She loved her son Chris dearly and also spending time with her sisters and nieces. Betty was a member of Chattahoochee Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. A lot of the kids are older now and say she taught them in Sunday School and how much they loved Mrs. Betty. She loved taking pictures at family reunions so she could share them with all her brothers and sisters. Betty loved seeing all her family. Betty has the most beautiful picture of all now. A picture of Heaven.

Betty worked for Habersham Medical Center and loved all the friends she met there. She worked longs hours and enjoyed her work there. In her younger years Betty and Garland ran McNabb and Caudell Grocery Store where they met lots of friends. Betty will be missed by so many and would say today come join me there is so much more in Heaven than on Earth. A peaceful place. I’m Happy.

Michael Adam Sutton age 47, of Cornelia passed away Saturday January 23, 2016.

Mr. Sutton was born in Atlanta, Ga on September 7, 1968. He was employed as a Property Manager.

Cathy Lenora Blackburn, age 67 of Cleveland, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018.

Mrs. Blackburn was born January 7, 1951 in Habersham County to the late Charles and Minnie Sims. Cathy was a homemaker and a member of Town Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Blackburn, brother, Wayne Sims and sister, Linda Poole.

Annetta “Ann” Alexander, age 74 of Cornelia, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018.

Mrs. Alexander was born on January 22, 1944, in Cleveland, Georgia, to the late Newt and Emma Wooten Jackson. She served as an EMT for White County EMS for many years and was a member of County Line Baptist Church. Ann was preceded in death by her daughter, Trina Alexander Almand; brothers, Rondal Jackson and Newt Jackson, Jr.; sisters, Alvastine Moore and Rheba Alexander.

Mr. Jerrell Ingram, age 67, of Dahlonega, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018.

Mr. Ingram was born and raised in Lumpkin County.  He was preceded in death by parents, Tom Bell Ingram and Mary Lou Ward; grandson, Caden Souther and step-father, Glad Jarrard.  Mr. Ingram attended A Servant’s Heart Church and was employed by Nix Septic Tank.

Mrs. Jean Howard Lindsay, age 88 of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018.

Jean was born on November 2, 1929 in White County, to the late John and Icie Turner Howard. She retired from the Georgia Department of Family and Children’s Services. She was member of Cleveland United Methodist Church where she joined in 1957. Jean sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school for a number of years, as well as served on various committees. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Lindsay who she married in 1957.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Dana Lindsay, Atlanta, and Kenneth and Donna Lindsay, Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Mary Catherine Lindsay, Ford Lindsay, Jack Lindsay, Jennifer and Chris Jones; great grandchildren, Emily Morgan Jones.

Donald Horace Dockery, age 80, of Cleveland, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018.

Mr. Dockery was born in White County the son of the late Wesley and Martha Lou Etris Dockery.  He was preceded in death by his wives, Norma Jean Bryan Dockery and Sara Rae Dockery and sister, Bobbie Garrison.  Mr. Dockery was a Carpenter and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church #2.

Hoyt A. Allen died peacefully in the early morning of April 12, 2018. He was the son of George and Nellie Mae Allen. One of six siblings, Hoyt was preceded in death by his parents, older brother, Lovic Allen, and sisters, Ruby Reid and Inez Allen.

Hoyt grew up in Cleveland and graduated from Cleveland High School. He attended Young Harris College and the University of Georgia where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Science in Education. Hoyt went back to Cleveland after finishing his education and taught civics and social studies for several years at Cleveland High School and sociology at Truett-McConnell College. He also served 2 years in the United States Army. Hoyt earned a Master of Divinity at the Candler School of Theology of Emory University in 1971. He was ordained an elder in The United Methodist Church in 1972. While in seminary he served as Associate Minister at Chamblee First United Methodist Church. Following his graduation from Candler, he served in Waleska, Georgia, as Chaplain at Reinhardt College and as minister of Waleska United Methodist Church. He then served the Owl Rock, Harlem, St. Phillip, Commerce First, Madison First, and Fair Oaks United Methodist Churches until his retirement from full-time ministry in 2003. In retirement he served the Clemens Chapel and Union Hill United Methodist Churches.

Hoyt met his wife, Martha, when they were both teaching in Cleveland. They married in 1970 and had two daughters, Nancy and Susan. Nancy is an American Sign Language interpreter at Clemson University and lives with her husband. Simon, in Greenville, SC. Susan is an elder in the United Methodist Church and serves as pastor at Embry Hills United Methodist Church in Atlanta. She lives in Atlanta with her husband, the Rev. Dave Allen Grady, and their daughter, Joy.

Hoyt loved to be outdoors. Having grown up on a farm, he loved to garden and work in his yard. He was an avid reader and learner, and loved to watch the Atlanta Braves. He believed that he could figure out how to fix or make just about anything and was successful at both most of the time. He was dedicated to both his immediate family and his extended family. He had many nieces and nephews who were very special to him, and he loved to get together with family whenever there was an opportunity, especially at holidays. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh with family and friends. He was full of compassion and kindness, never meeting a stranger, always with an encouraging word to share with someone else.

In the last years of his life, Hoyt lived with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. Though the disease took away his mobility and eventually his ability to communicate, the essence of who he was never was lost. Martha was faithful to remain by his side to the very end. The family continues to be grateful for the many messages of love for him and encouragement that they have received.

Hoyt will be remembered for his love and kindness by his family, friends, and the members of the many churches he has served. We will never forget his gentle encouragement and support, his sense of humor, his ability to speak the truth in love when it was needed, his strength, and his deep and abiding faith.

A time of visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, April 15, 3-5 P.M, at Barrett Funeral Home in Cleveland, Georgia. A family burial will be held on Monday morning, and the funeral service will be held at 2 pm at Cleveland United Methodist Church. The Revs. Ted Keen, Richard Long, and Dick Huycke will preside.

Mrs. Edge was born on February 10, 1945 in Demorest, Georgia to the late Otis Cleveland and Maude York Cleveland. She was a caregiver, taking care of those in need as well as her late husband, John Ed Edge, whom she cared for some 13 years following a stroke. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Edge is preceded in death by her son, Tim Edge, infant daughter Penny Edge as well as her sisters, Barbara Garrett, Judy Sisk, Eulene Cantrell, granddaughters, Crystal Dockery, Daisy Dockery and great grandson, Wesley Garrison

Mr. Dale Arrendale , age 72 of Cleveland. Mr. Arrendale passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 following a period of declining health.

Mr. Arrendale was born in Habersham County on October 31, 1945 to the late William Talmadge Arrendale and Sarah Dallie Nicholson. Survivors include his daughter, Beck Cremer, Winter Gardens, FL; sisters Betty Hand of Loganville and Peggy Sue Painter of Homer; brother, Bruce Arrendale of Cornelia and William Arrendale of Clarkesville as well as his very close friend, Stanley Ridley of Cleveland.

It was Mr. Arrendale’s wishes that he be cremated and no services be held.

Audrey Eleanor Lindemann,”Sis,” age 92 passed away at Friendship Health and Rehab, Cleveland, Ga. on March 19, 2018.

Born in San Francisco, California. September 24, 1925 to Everett Claude Johnson and Marie Anna (Von Bargen) Johnson. The youngest of three children, whose surname was later changed to “Heick” after their mother’s re-marriage. Married April 19, 1947 to Herman Nicolaus Lindemann “Lindy” in Buffalo, New York. Predeceased by both parents, two brothers, Everett Hugh (Johnson) Heick, Albert James (Johnson) Heick, and her husband, Lindy. Survived by three children, Dale H. Lindemann (Carol), Susan M. Belden (Brad), Vicki A. Jordan (Tony), many grandchildren and great-grand children.

Because Audrey openly shared her memories, both good and bad, of growing up in San Francisco, we can easily see her:

…crouched on her roller skates, arms wrapped around her knees, racing down hills on streets that were lined with more sand dunes, than houses, then leaping over the grate at the bottom.

…proudly taking her place in the outfield, after being chosen for the neighborhood team, ahead of many of the boys.

…practicing forming sentences while belching out words in competition with her brother, Al.

…watching workers build the Golden Gate Bridge from her grandparents’ rented home, then walking over the bridge with her mother and brothers, in homemade Spanish-style costumes for the opening ceremony.

…gracefully performing techniques she copied from Sonja Henie movies, while she skated and spun at local ice rinks.

…opening accounts for actors Greer Garson (“huge hat, pale skin, beautifully made-up and dressed”) and Errol Flynn (“dissipated-looking”) when she worked at Gump’s.

…listening to her regular Sunday morning music program with her mother when they announced the bombing of Pearl Harbor, fearing for the welfare of her brother, who was stationed there.

…going to Mare Island Naval Hospital and catching her breath at the smell, as she got off the elevator on the floor where her brother and the other burn patients were treated.

…traveling across country with her mother to visit the families of the service people she met during the war, and then again with her in-laws-to-be, when she went to Buffalo to marry Lindy, one of those servicemen.

Tough and self-reliant, she followed Lindy to all the shore duty, kept the family safe while he was at sea and delighted in being a Navy wife.

She practiced and taught the skills she learned from her mother and grandparents, laughed boldly at jokes, and made many of her own.

Never attempt to re-light the gas water heater without first airing out the room…if you wish to keep your eyebrows.

Ruthlene McClure Chambers age 87 of Cleveland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Mrs. Chambers was born May 22, 1930 to the late Charlie and Jessie Johnson McClure. She was a homemaker and a chicken farmer. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Clyde Chambers, sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Sherry Collins, brother and sister-in-law, Albert (Bud) and Armour McClure and brother, Robert McClure.
