Significant Weather Advisory in effect for White County

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The National Weather Service issued the following Significant Weather Advisory for White and northern Banks counties at 4:07 p.m. today, May 31: A strong thunderstorm was over Helen near Cleveland moving southeast at 25 miles per hour. Also, the Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. today.

HAZARD…Up to 40 mph wind … pea-sized hail and frequent cloud to ground lightning.

IMPACT…Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of light, unsecured objects.

Some locations in the path of this storm include Cleveland, Baldwin, Helen, Unicoi State Park, Robertstown, Anna Ruby Falls, Leaf, Mossy Creek, Smithgall Woods Conservation Area, Hollingsworth, Sautee and Qualatchee Lake.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
