CLEVELAND, Ga. – White County deputies arrested 17-year-old Trevor Rankin Tuesday. Rankin is suspected of kidnapping a 17-year-old girl that he once dated Sunday and driving to Hall County.

Authorities say he drove to a gas station at the intersection of Nopone Road and Hwy 129 where the victim escaped with the help of a customer. Rankin reportedly fled the scene on foot, abandoning the vehicle which was reported stolen in Blairsville.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the gas station around 11 p.m., set up a perimeter and tried to track Rankin down with the aid of a K-9 team. The search was unsuccessful and was called off two hours later. A Hall County press release stated: “The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a related altercation with the same victim that allegedly occurred in the area before the suspect fled.”

White County deputies arrested Rankin in the city of Cleveland. He is currently being held in the White County Jail Tuesday afternoon on a kidnapping charge.
