Former Corrections Officer Indicted on Sexual Assault Charge

CLEVELAND – A White County Grand Jury returned an indictment this week against Grady Harold Speers, a former Georgia Department of Corrections officer.

Speers, 37, is accused of the sexual assault of an inmate at a correctional facility violation of oath of office.

According to the indictment, the alleged assault took place “between the 3^rd day of October 2015 and 26^th day of January 2016 when Speers was an employee and the victim was someone “who the accused knew, or should have known was a detainee of Lee Arrendale State Prison, contrary to the laws of said State, the good order, peace and dignity thereof.”

The victim was reportedly on a work release program and working in Helen at the time of the alleged sexual activity took place.

Speers is no longer employed by the Georgia Department of Corrections.
