Second Phase of the Appalachian Parkway Will be Open Wednesday

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Katie Strickland, the District 1 communications officer for the Georgia Department of Transportation said a ribbon-cutting and grand opening of Phase 2 of the Appalachian Parkway will be held Wednesday (July 26) at 10 a.m.

Strickland said the portion of the road north of Cleveland at the intersection of  Highway 129 and Hulsey Road, received the final smooth topping, striping and finishing touches Monday.



Child Killed in White County Crash Today


CLEVELAND, Ga. — One child died and another person suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle traffic accident in Cleveland today.

The Georgia State Patrol responded to the accident on Appalachian Parkway at South Main Street just before 12:00 p.m.

According to reports on scene, the driver of a van reportedly pulled into the path of a vehicle that was traveling south on the Appalachian Parkway.

The parkway was shut down for over an hour while officials worked the accident and cleared the scene.

Officials with the state patrol were expected to release more details later Monday.
