BOC approves millage rollback rate of 9.505

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — The Board of Commissioners approved a millage rollback rate of 9.505 for the tax year 2022 at Tuesday’s called meeting. The rollback is expected to produce $11,169,161 in property tax revenue.

A mill equals one dollar of tax on every thousand dollars of taxable value.  A home valued at $342,000 is taxed at at 40 percent or $136,800  multiplied by the rollback rate of 9.505 for a total of $1,300. The Board of Education’s millage rate of 14.222 mills to bring the total millage rate to 23.727. Thus the same $342,000 pays an overall county rate of $3,245.

The Board also adopted a resolution in honor of Elijah Nix who completed his Eagle Scout project by creating a beautiful rock garden project at the White County Senior Center.

Commissioners also approved the purchase of 3.599 acres of land at 538 Main Street in Cleveland to set the stage for the construction of a Tax Commissioner’s office. The vote was 4-0. Chairman Travis Turner abstained. The land adjoins the 17 acres White County bought back in January.

The Board also approved  a conditional use permit for Kendyl Brock Hunter on 5.14 acres at 540 Ascension Trail in Cleveland to be included in the County’s short-term rental program and a request by Margaret Guzinski and Carl Heck on one acre at 349 Horton Creek Road in Helen to be included in the short-term rental program.
