2 Soldiers Killed During Training on Mt. Yonah

WHITE COUNTY, Ga.- On Aug. 9 two soldiers were killed and three others were injured during training on Mt. Yonah while waiting for a storm to clear.

Staff Sergeant Geroge Taber and 2nd Lt. Even Fitzgibbon were two soldiers from Fort Benning training with the rangers division out of Camp Merill. Three other soldiers were injured during the incident.

An army medic was on the scene and was able to treat the soldiers while coming off the mountain.  White County Emergency Services responded to the call suspending a search for a missing individual around Mt. Lakes.

Two of the soldiers that were injured were released from the hospital on Aug. 10, the third still remains in the hospital for observation. The soldiers were waiting for a storm to clear when a gust of wind blew a tree down on top of them.
