WHITE COUNTY, Ga. – On Tuesday (Jan. 21) at approximately 6:30 p.m., White County fire units with automatic aid from the City of Cleveland responded to a reported structure fire at 1135 Stansel Road off Adair Mill Rd.
Once on scene, it was determined that is was not a structure fire but a brush pile that was smoldering and a flammable liquid was used. This caused an explosion resulting in burns to two unidentified adult males. One was transported via helicopter with life- threatening injuries and one refused treatment/transport. An off-duty sheriff’s deputy who lived next door received minor burns to his hands while trying to render aid.
Fire personnel extinguished the brush pile and remained on scene to assist with landing zones and patient care. Units were on scene for approximately two hours.
An unidentified 19-year-old male suffered second- and third-degree burns and was airlifted to Grady Burn Center in Atlanta and was last reported in stable condition. The name is being released due to notification of next of kin.
A unidentified 20-year-old male suffered first- and second-degree burns to his lower extremities. He refused to transport and was treated on scene.
An off-duty White County patrol deputy lived next door, responded to the scene and received first degree burns to his hand while trying to render aid to the burn victims.
