HELEN, Ga. — The Georgia State Patrol has issued a preliminary report on a single-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon on Poplar Springs Road near Helen that injured nine people.

According to the report, a 2009 Kia Borrego driven by a 16-year-old female that the GSP did not identify was driving south on Poplar Stump Road and was traveling too fast for the conditions. When the vehicle reached a curve, it fishtailed and the driver lost control. It traveled off the left side of the roadway and down an embankment, striking a tree with its driver’s side front quarter panel.

The driver and nine passengers were injured and transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. She was charged with reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions, and seatbelt violations.

The GSP did not disclose the extent of the injuries received in the accident. An investigation is ongoing.
