Local Officials Encourage Water Conservation

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Last week’s declaration by the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) of a Level 1 Drought has led local officials to call on residents to employ good conservation practices.

White County Commissioner Edwin Nix, who is also director of the county Water Authority encouraged residents to be good stewards of the water supply. “The main thing the EPD wants us to do is to emphasize conservation and let people know that from four o’clock in the evening until 10 o’clock the next morning, that’s the time they need to be watering.”

The Level 1 Drought covers 53 Georgia counties, including White County and means those counties are required to begin information campaigns to help citizens understand the drought and its impact on water supplies.

Georgians should begin to see some relief from drought conditions as we move into the fall and winter months.
