CLEVELAND, Ga. — White County authorities have identified the woman who fell to her death from Yonah Mountain Monday evening as Virginia Grace Hill, 27, of Gainesville.
Sheriff’s Deputy Scotty Scarborough said a group of hikers discovered the body and called 9-1-1 late Monday. Rescue workers worked Tuesday to bring the body off the mountain.
An investigation indicates that the woman was alone when she fell from the rock face but Scarborough said they are awaiting the results of an autopsy to confirm what the investigation indicated.
This marks the second time in the last year someone has fallen to their death on the mountain. John Hebenstreit, a 43-year-old Braselton man was killed last May while hiking with his wife and children.
