Tennessee woman charged with debit card fraud

News

CLEVELAND, Ga. – A 26-year-old Tennessee woman is in the White County jail today charged with three counts of financial transaction card fraud. Her bond has been set at $15,000.

Kayra Renea Brown was arrested in Hall County last week on a warrant out of White County. She is charged with using a debit card belonging to Barbara Anita Moore of Dawsonville to purchase items at the Cleveland Walmart and Murphy USA.

Moore reports she dropped the card when she exited Walmart and a video camera shows Brown and a male, later identified by Brown to be her boyfriend Matthew Wooten, picking up the card before re-entering Walmart and making several purchases.

Brown told investigators she did not use the card and that it was Wooten who used it. But video surveillance shows Brown using the card to purchase a prescription.

At the time of her arrest, Brown was on probation in Tennessee. She has a history of arrests for shoplifting, financial transaction card theft and fraud dating back to 2012.

There is also a warrant out for the arrest of Matthew Wooten.
