White County boys varsity head coach Sam Borg has much to proud of, despite his team’s 2-game losing streak going into this week’s schedule. The Warriors (6-2, 0-0) travel to Gainesville this Friday to enter Region 7-AAAA play at Chestatee (2-4, 0-0), where coach Borg and his varsity look to improve their record and turn their season back in the right direction.
The Warriors kicked the season off with a dominant 78-57 victory at Tallulah Falls on November 16, followed by a 20+ blowout over Habersham Central (Mt Airy) at home (74-56) just two days later.
On November 20 the boys defeated Coahulla Creek (Dalton) 73-41 and after the first three games of the season it appeared no one was ready to challenge White County.
The next day, however, Franklin County (Carnesville) gave the Warriors a great contest as White County won their closest game of the season, 64-58.
White County then hosted North Hall and won another hard-fought battle, 59-48, closing out the November schedule with an undefeated 5-0 record.
December 1, White County kicked off their December schedule with a 69-46 blowout over Lumpkin County, but later in the week Franklin County High School would get their revenge in a rematch from early in the season. The Warriors played Franklin close but fell by a final of 60-52, their first loss of the season.
On December 11, the Warriors once again found themselves in a thriller, but this time it would be East Jackson pulling off the buzzer-beating win (74-71).
“We’ve got a great group of guys,” coach Borg told TeamFYNSports. “We’re excited to start region play this week and we’re looking forward to the Christmas Tourney in Fannin next week.”
White County now looks to win their first region game of the season, before hosting Dawson County on December 18, and then Fannin County on December 19 to finish out their schedule before the new year.
